The American economy has indeed been the star for a long time but not everyone has benefited from the boom.
Yes, but for a recent couple of years the lowest quintile was actually seeing increases greater than q2 and q3, (maybe q4, IIRC). Extending the tax cuts is a big accelerator for q5 though.
I was thinking more about disaffected males who lost manufacturing employment and voted for Trump. Employees in service and tech sectors have done better
I told my wife that yesterday when she asked when would his base turn on him…
Yeah, admit you voted for Donald Trump but don’t like him anymore, and see how many people love you for it.
You might be surprised by how many people would appreciate that sort of thing. Just knowing that more people choose to live in the real world instead of trump fantasy land would make me hopeful for our future.
I’d give them grace. They did something stupid and realized their mistake. I can hold that you did a bad thing but you regret it and want to be better.
There’s an extremely vocal minority in various online places who do give folks grief for recanting their 2024 support for the Dear Leader.
I won’t deny that, while I’m trying not to give people who sincerely realize there was an error made a hard time…it was a lot easier to do so heading into the 2020 elections, or in the January 6 aftermath.
The outcome of the 2024 elections left me with a very strong feeling of “eff it”, and simply wanting to get the popcorn ready, pull up a lawn chair to watch the show, and give a little thought on how to profit from the coming

I probably ought to find the fortitude to avoid stories of leopards eating faces. Schadenfreude is an addictive drug.
I’m in about the same place regarding sympathy for the idiots who were duped 3 times by the most obvious con in history. But I will grudgingly accept and give kudos to people who are able to break free and admit they made a mistake.
I don’t think many have recanted.
Coincidentally, just yesterday one of my immediate family members admitted to voting for Trump to another who is suffering from it. She is pushing him to stand up against Trump’s specific actions that he disagrees with…
I disagree with Steve White’s phrasing though. The goal isn’t to get people to admit Trump is bad, or whatever. The goal should be to find some common ground.
Also, I recall that GoActuary had some folks like @Nick_Papagiorgio who admitted to regretting their 2016 Trump votes, and GA was pretty welcoming of their opinions and presence.
Admittedly, he later started posting randomly about trans junk and then disappeared shortly before the last election… I wonder if he regrets his 2024 vote today.
There’s really not much point, at least not publicly. Those on one side will hate them for what they wrought on the USA via their vote, and those on the other side will hate them for their disloyalty. People are vindictive. Granted, the current administration and their supporters are way worse in that regard, but we’re all human.
I’m not trying to get redemption for my own actions, as I’ve done nothing regrettable.
