(apparently true, but site paywalled so could not confirm)
You couldn’t confirm it anyway unless you were a witness.
Again, AntiSocial Media is not a primary news source.
Could not confirm the accuracy of the letter’s contents, but except for the paywall situation could confirm whether the Washington Post published such a letter.
There are enough such stories, true and false, that many foreigners are cancelling discretionary US visits.
I encountered another one earlier today, either in the MSN/Windows or Google/Android clickbait streams, of an Aussie who was denied entry after having failed to satisfy a border guard’s paranoia about why they arrived on a flight from Hong Kong, rather than flying direct from Australia.
(I understand that it’s a common travel hack to fly from Australia via Hong Kong to save some A$.)
I think the incidents are isolated, and they have been happening to a certain extent since 9/11. However, in the current environment, they’re getting magnified in social media and clickbait feeds, and that’s enough to be a deterrent.
I also think that things need to get significantly worse before the people who need to learn the lesson actually get the lesson through their thick skulls.
Entire text as it appears in WaPo on April 3:
My son works in Europe and has been planning to come visit me and my wife with his wife and 5-year-old son this summer. However, the U.S. government’s recent actions toward foreign nationals has caused my family serious concern.
A German friend of my son recently flew to Boston and was put in a room for two hours by immigration officials. She told my son that they searched her belongings, unlocked her phone and looked at all of her messages and photos trying to find any negative comments about Trump so they could send her back to Europe. Some of my own friends have also heard such stories. Some of these people have green cards. News like this is spreading in Europe, and people are canceling trips.
This has to stop. I am a strong Republican, but I am ashamed and angry with what is happening. This is not what I voted for. I have a lot of pride in the United States, but the nation’s reputation and even our economy — including the personal nest eggs we have worked so hard to build up for when we retire — are being destroyed.
My son ultimately decided it was best to cancel his visit to see his family in the United States. We are devastated.

A letter to the editor is not news, either.
How do we know they were looking for anti-Trump comments? 2 hours seems like a long time to spend with someone when thousands are coming through Boston each hour from abroad, just to find something on social media.
I guess I am skeptical the entire story is out there.
We don’t. The “Truth” such as it is or may be, is not that the government necessarily was trying to find a reason to deport them. It is that foreigners are changing their travel plans in reactions to their perceptions of the US government’s feelings about foreigners. The link in the quote of the letter cites other concerned travelers.
NBCnews.com has similar information.
From a former AO regular on Facebook (The “I’ll say that he’s a Nazi” looks like part of the meme he’s posting, not like his personal comment on the meme. It looks like an accurate conclusion, regardless of who is drawing it.)
Objectively, Trump’s not a Nazi. We have a long way to go before that level of evil is achieved…and really, at this point it’s getting bad enough that we need to avoid having criticisms be dismissible because of the hyperbole.
He is, however, a fascist aspiring to be a ![]()
. That’s bad enough.
You boil the frog slowly.
What did hitler start out with?
Trump’s key advisor, who’s gutting agencies with no oversight, did a clear nazi salute to a large crowd of people.
They don’t have to kill millions to make thier underlying ideology apparent.
Political response to a non-political funny/sfw post:
The caption could also read “Trump talking foreign trade with economists”.
Well, Trump does like having a big HUGE crowd around him . . .
