Seattle to Phoenix, a whisker under three hours. It seems the woman sitting next to him wasn’t impressed by this feat, however.

if she wasn’t impressed, then why was she takin photos?! and the guy went to sleep, presumably exhausted.

back to serious - yuck. what a creep. worthy of the thread title.

I always thought the prime suspect for the cops was the surviving spouse. :man_shrugging:

They gave up white people for Lent?

Well, if you actually read the piece, you’d see what they were actually doing.

Interesting. I have a math issue with this sentence from that article:

If something starts on a Wednesday and ends on a Thursday, then it cannot be 40 days long.

Sundays aren’t part of Lent.

Says you!

I think we need a little more explanation. There are 6 weeks plus 1 day between Ash Wednesday 3/2 to Holy Thursday 4/14. So is that 44 days? and there are 6 Sundays? So 44 - 6 = 38? but maybe I’m not very good at math.

Although the Lenten season — Ash Wednesday to Holy Thursday — lasts 44 days, the number of days for penance and fasting before Easter is still 40. Forty-four days, minus six Sundays, equals 38. Add the other two days of Holy Triduum, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, and it equals 40 days.

There ya go.

I found another place that explained that as well. But thanks. I think it was explained in a thread on the AO once. But I can’t go look it up there now.

But if good Friday and holy Saturday directly follow Holy Thursday, why say it ends on Thursday plus 2 and not just say it ends Saturday?

Yeah, that’s like saying I was able to control my appetite by only eating 4 pieces of pizza, except it also includes the 5th and 6th slices.

Isn’t that because Jesus was killed on Friday, so the Lenten season ends on Maundy Thursday?

I don’t know why they’re explaining it that way - I would just say Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday, minus the Sundays.

I was lazy and went with the first search result.

Ooh, ooh! I know! I know! Our deacon did a presentation of the Church calendar for the high school religious ed students this year. The Easter Triduum is it’s own season. The Lenten season goes from Ash Wednesday until Holy Thursday and contains 38 of the fasting days before Easter. The remaining two fasting days, Good Friday and Holy Saturday, are part of the Easter Triduum and therefore a different season. That is why it is spelled out the way it is.

Do I get to go on the list now for knowing something Catholic meep didn’t know?

so the original argued quote is what is actually in error. Lent is a 44 day period, with 38 days of fasting or Beginning with Lent on Ash Wednesday there are 40 days of fasting… over a 46 day period

Well, I definitely did not know Triduum was separate as part of the Liturgical calendar.

Stu is the one who worked for the archdiocese of NY, not me.
