An east Oak Cliff man has been arrested after he beat his roommate with a stick during an argument about what a mosquito looks like, Dallas police say.
Victor Symone Shavers, 43, faces a charge of aggravated assault. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
About 2:45 a.m. Sunday, officers were called to the 1500 block of Cape Cod Drive, near East Kiest Boulevard and South Lancaster Road, and found Shavers’ roommate standing outside with his face bloodied, an arrest-warrant affidavit says.
Shavers was sitting on his bed in the men’s shared room with blood on his head and hand, according to the affidavit.
The roommate told police the two were talking about what a mosquito looks like when the argument escalated.
The roommate said Shavers grabbed a stick from behind his bed and started hitting him on the head with it. He said Shavers hit him at least six times, according to the affidavit.
The roommate grabbed a metal bat from his closet and hit Shavers multiple times in the head, the affidavit says.
The roommate had deep cuts on his left cheek and side of his head and required multiple stitches. Shavers had a cut on the back of his head and a possibly broken hand, the affidavit says.
Shavers admitted he hit his roommate first, according to the affidavit.
He remained in custody Wednesday at the Dallas County jail, where he is also being held on a misdemeanor count of family-violence assault stemming from a June incident. His total bail is $28,000.
It’s a horrible article. I mean, I don’t even know how each party to the matter would describe a mosquito.
But my problem is if Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Holy Thursday and supposedly is “40 days of fasting” my problem is that 2 of those days occur after Lent ends.
It’s 40 days of fasting, etc. before Easter, not 40 days in Lent.
(I’ll admit, however, that I hadn’t really considered Lent ending on Maundy Thursday before; with my Anglican upbringing, I always assumed Lent kinda ran up to Easter Vigil.)
Suppose that you didn’t make your Easter duty and it’s Pentecost Sunday, the last day, and you’re on a ship at sea. And the chaplain goes into a coma! But you wanted to receive. And then it’s Monday, too late… But then you cross the International Date Line! Would that then be a sin then, @meep?”
