Musks nazi salute

When americans say “liberal left” they don’t mean Bernie sanders but Nancy Pelosi. Bernie is viewed as a socialist/communist.

I just responded to the quotes, I have no idea what the context is. The problem is that Nazis say stuff like “we must protect german culture” which actually means they don’t want non-whites. That’s not what I’m talking about. Most of the immigration in Quebec is from non-whites because they speak french (Haiti, Northern AFrica). I disagree with the notion that protecting culture implicitly means you’re a white supremacist. It’s much more subtle than that.

Ok, well we are discussing Elon Musk doing the Nazi salute during a speech, so just be aware that when, in that context, you say stuff like “culture must be protected” it kind of reads like you’re defending Nazi “culture”.

Your arguments here are really incoherent. Corporate America is not the Liberal left.

What Elon Musk said in that clip is basically common rhetoric in Quebec. The leader of the Parti Quebecois was crying on camera claiming we were “being replaced”. It’s hilarious how sensitive you are about this stuff.

Imagine a corporate middle manager in California who votes democrat, fiscally conservative but extremely liberal. What do you call that?

Not a woke left liberal.

How about a farm owner in rural Nebraska or Florida who has 30 illegal immigrants working for him and flies a giant MAGA flag outside his house.

Seems like there are two components of “culture”:

  1. Stuff that doesn’t do any injustice and is thus unlikely to come under attack

  2. Stuff that does injustice, and people defending it use #1 as pretext

Okay, maybe there’s a third:

  1. Stuff that some people claim is unjust, but really isn’t, so screw them

Pretty narrow category, though.

If it weren’t for the bigots and conspiracy theorists now dominating the party, I would say that’s a person who should be supporting socially liberal libertarians.

I used the term “liberal left” to describe a particular type of democrat. Usually white, well off, educated, woke, etc. Would be open to vote for a moderate republican to pay less taxes but doesn’t want to be associated with the republican party because of bigotry and religious conservatism. As Maphistos said, they are closer to being libertarian. The democratic party is currently trying to get rid of them.

Read the section on Quebec to understand the difference. We are openly against multiculturalism here, we view it as harmful. Now many people on this forum will think this is racist or something, but we simply don’t care. You don’t like it then don’t move here.

Shirley you have sources for this?

This is totally irrelevant to your claim.

Uh people are far more sensitive about the gesture than the words. Heck I don’t even remember the words … because they weren’t particularly noteworthy. What was noteworthy was the Nazi salute. That’s why we made a thread about it.

It’s at odds with my understanding of the Democratic party, which includes a lot of well-off, educated white people who contribute significant money, votes, and influence. 538.com has claimed they exert a disproportionate influence over the party’s platform and priorities.

Jumping at the chance to vote for a Republican just to lower one’s taxes is at odds with my concept of “woke”, so I struggle to interpret that part of the characterization. Maybe he’s saying they’re hypocrites?

Woke = anything I don’t like?

This entire conversation has been bizarre. It’s as if they can’t see that a lot of liberal and conservative corporate types are pro immigration. It has nothing to do with multiculturalism or wokeness. They want cheap labour, that’s motivated to work hard and are unable/unwilling to pushback on poor labour practices. How the cheap labour gets into the country is up for debate and I’m sure the two groups have differing opinions on the best approach. However, once the workers are available they’re willing to look the other way regardless of their politics to hire the cheap labour.

Just look at the recent blow up over H-1B visas. Liberal and conservative business types and politicians were both demanding that the flow of cheap, high skill workers be maintained. There were also people on both sides of the political spectrum demanding there be cutbacks and/or changes.

Canada recently cut back on immigration numbers. The first group screaming bloody murder over it was the Canadian Federation of Independent Business. Not a particularly left wing group.

But, but, CULTURE!!!

And how would you feel about French not being available outside Quebec?

Multiculturalism has protected Quebec’s identity in an English dominant Canada. Funny isn’t it that now you’re arguing it’s a bad thing when it slows down Quebec’s assimilation of immigrants. you realize the same thing is protecting Quebec from being assimilated into Canada?

I’ve never lived through a period where there was so much hair splitting to explain how a group’s actions are non-racist.

I’m glad there are armies online to guide me to rightthink. I’ve never known so much about Roman salutes, how to be proud of your culture without being xenophobic, I’ve never seen such masterful trolling as when Trump constantly says things he doesn’t mean…
