There was a time when…I owned the Led Zeppelin catalog on vinyl.

Here’s a favorite. If you want to understand, listen to it, then listen again just to the drums, then listen again just to the guitar, then listen again just to the vocals, then listen again to the bass and everything else. Then listen again and understand.

You need to be careful in focusing on parts on this one.

Don’t read this unless you want it to forever affect how you listen to the song. Seriously.

The bass drum pedal has a HORRIBLE squeek and once you notice it, you can no longer not hear it. It will stand out in all subsequent listens.

My old band used to always play this.

I stumbled across this a few years ago when I was on a Townes Van Zant kick. Townes reminds me a bit of Bob Dylan, great song writer, average performer. Died early of alcoholism, sad story. but many of his songs were made famous by other artists. Notably Pancho and Lefty first by Emmy Lou Harris then by Wille Nelson/Mearl Haggard and Techumseh Valley by Nancy Griffith.

But thanks for bumping this one by The Be Good Tanyas, it used to be in my regular Youtube lists until I got a new computer a while back.

Rhiannon is really interesting, she appeared a lot in Ken Burns’ Country Music series. Her depth of knowledge about musical history is really something, and I love her music.
