In one of my preferred alternate universes I own a blues/jazz bar restaurant where I get to cook and listen to music like this every night.

In my alternate universe I have a mini amphitheater in the backyard where I invite singer/songwriters on Saturday nights in the summer and host SJ’s Backyard Barbecue and Live Jams.

We had something like that (although not mine) Gip’s Place.

A friend of mine suggested I listen to Cat Power’s take on Nothing Compares 2 U. The second he said it, I could hear exactly what it would be in my head. It’s a perfect song for Cat Power.

This song means a lot to me. I first heard it in Omaha, It woke me back up out of a conservative haze.

Man, there was some great music coming out of Tempe at that time. I listened to that record a LOT in high school, and of course Gin Blossoms. Dead Hot Workshop never quite made it big but they’re fun.
