Sure. But his grip on power back then was a lot weaker.
I am concerned now because his grip on power is going to be a lot stronger now, and he will not want to give that up.

Yeah but not as many people will follow vance, itll fracture.
I am not so sure.
With enough R state support, I can see Vance continuing on the authoritarian path.
People are afraid of Trump supporting a candidate who can beat them in the primaries, Vance doesn’t seem to have the support to be able to do that.
The midterms are going to be a serious bellwether for 2028… We’ve seen lots of legal, semi-legal, and illegal electoral fuckery lately. Alabama (IIRC? GA?) redistricting in direct defiance of SCOTUS comes to mind.
There’s enough abstraction to a lot of the fuckery that it’s gone without major outrage/upset. But let’s see what’s in store for the upcoming elections. It’s pretty much a given that some fuckery will happen, but how much will be done and how much is too much?
The interesting thing about the legislature’s bad second map is it was shot down early enough that the court’s map was used, resulting in a 5-2 r-d breakdown, down from 6-1. The geographic distribution and party correlation with race means the legal type of gerrymandering TX is attempting won’t likely fly here.
Aside-iirc the legislature’s second map was a slight improvement to earlier maps but only a token amount that was a transparent childish you can’t make me kind of statement. To which the federal court said, yes i did.
I also seem to remember experts were of the opinion 5-2 is what a “fair” approach would yield currently.
Another illegal EO incoming. Trump has indicated that he will issue a 2nd EO banning mail in voting, even though the Constitution is explicit that states get to make their own rules. Previous EO on the same topic from March has been thrown out by the courts.
States are agents of the federal government and must do whatever dear Leader says regardless of legality or constitutionality.
I feel at some point that I read:
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
Yeah, really not a fan of this.
To be slightly more accurate, I believe the Constitution gives States the right to make their rules for Congressional elections. For Presidential elections, it’s up to Congress. Nowhere does it give the President the power to make the rules.
The head of the DC Police Union did claim that they were pressured to falsify crime stats, and to reclassify violent crimes as lesser, non-violent crimes, in order to make it look like crime was dropping. An official who reported the stats was suspended and is under investigation. So that part may be true.
I would take anything public unions say with a large barrel of salt. (Looking at his X account) that guy is basically skeezy pundit. But sure, worth waiting for the investigation I guess.
The other points are absolutely false, speaking as someone who lives in a city with crime.
soon the beautification will begin
I believe this is also standard for authoritarian governments.
“Beautify” the capital. Big ego boost for Dear Leader.
Also, making life a little better for the people who live in the capital city reduces the chances of big anti authoritarian demonstrations.
The post asked if a single word is true. I pointed out that one point may be, it’s under investigation (although I’m sure the ones investigating aren’t unbiased.) It was one point, but 2 different claims - that they falsified data, and that they’re under investigation. I guess the investigation part is definitely true, and the falsifying data claim remains to be seen.
I agree that the rest is pure trash.
The good news is that in 40+ states, individuals’ votes for President are effectively irrelevant.
So many untruths in his diatribe. For example, “the USA is the only country in the world that permits mail-in ballots”? How does he get away with making statements like this that are easily revealed to be false?
