Milestones Toward an Authoritarian Government

Even if Trump doesn’t try to take over, again, this is going to be a long list.

Thanks for setting this up. TBH, I hope it dies for lack of content.

But, so far I’ve got two

  1. Commission to identify “woke” generals so Trump can re-assign and demote them. I assume “woke” will mean anyone who is not a Trump loyalist.

  2. Tweet demanding that the Senate only consider Majority Leader candidates who have promised to support recess appointments.

It would be nice if we could remove the second when the Senate insists on reviewing every appointment and rejects Gaetz (at least). We’ll see.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to go after the media if he doesn’t like what they have to say. This is pretty high on the list for any dictator imo.

This, along with the choice of Fox News Pundit / War Crimes apologist Hegseth for SOD.

Along with numerous reports from Kelly, Milley, and Esper that Trump is a “Fascist” who wishes he had “Hitler’s Generals”.

Hopefully he just wants to be able to talk-- to dump on heroes/veterans, pardon war crimes, and praise dictators-- without his generals arguing/leaking. But he’s also mentioned wanting to shoot protesters and illegal immigrants, and I expect there will be a lot of both if we go through with mass deportation plans.

This goes back to McConnel blocking Garland from SCOTUS nomination to begin building a puppet court. The normal course of politics would have kept a reasonably balanced court.

This could go in a number of threads, but perhaps fits best here

This is also posted in the “goals” thread. But, if we’re counting milestones, it seems appropriate here, too.
Authoritarians don’t like free press.

The bill passed the House by unanimous action on Monday. Trump is killing it in the Senate.
