Israel - Hamas War October 2023

The hornets don’t care.
That is why i used that idiom and analogy.

I’m seeing reports that a senior Iranian diplomat is saying Iran will give up enriching uranium in exchange for ending the current war. He was clear that this is because if the war continues, the leadership believes that the current regime would fall.
The current regime is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in the world. They oppress their people terribly. It would be fantastic if the current regime fell, and was replaced by moderates.

Unfortunately, there isn’t an option to restrict individuals from posting in a thread.

There is the option of reducing the Trust Level of a poster to a point where their ability to post in any thread becomes limited.

My preference for a situation like this, however, is to “slow posting in the thread” in general as a way to prevent a flame war starting here.

No need for us to replicate Middle East politics & rhetoric.

At some point, someone is going to go after Israeli leadership in the same way Israel is going after Iran’s leadership. Maybe even go after Israel’s top official, like Israel wanted to reportedly go after Iran’s Supreme Leader [and Trump shockingly nixed].

I’m sure that will be different, though, in the same way that when someone you [the royal ‘you’ here] don’t like beats the shit out of their girlfriend / wife you’ll condemn the abuser and demand they rot in prison, but when it’s your best friend beating the shit out of their girlfriend / wife it’s “well, but he’s really a good guy, he’s just going through a really difficult time, we need to give him another chance” even after he does it the 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th time.

This was brought up earlier in the thread, and I said that I recognized that Bibi is a legitimate target in a war.

I’m from a country that has a history of attempting to fix things by fomenting regime change.
It has, at best, a spotty track record. Problem is, you end up turning an adversarial relationship into a patrimonial one. You accumulate dependents, in a sense.

I don’t think Israel would put in a new regime. There are plenty of Iranians who oppose the current regime, and they’ve been waiting for an opportunity to get rid of it. There have been so many protests over the years, and the government has violently quashed them.
If Khomeini is taken out, along with the IRGC, I think we may see the people rise up and seize control of the government for themselves. Who knows, maybe the National Council of Iran will be welcomed in to take control.

Or perhaps it is replaced by a group intent on revenge and blood.
Ya pay your money, and ya take your chances. Just sayin, most of the replacements are pretty awful.

I wasn’t shocked. At heart Trump is a coward and he’d be afraid on being assassinated in kind.

Israel continues killing more Palestinians for sport. So weird that this happens every day, right around the very places they’ve herded Palestinians into for aid.

All these thousands of Palestinians killed, in such a small area, you’d think Israel would have been able to wipe out Hamas long ago.

Hamas is doing everything they can to shut down the Israeli aid distribution sites. They’ve threatened Palestinians, saying that they’ll be punished for going to them. Now Hamas is claiming that Israel is killing people at those sites… and you actually believe them?

I don’t believe either side, frankly. Once someone has decided that god is on their side, anything goes.

Also: there’s an ‘ignore’ function, and individuals should feel free to put it to use where appropriate.

How many dead Palestinians are needed before you might consider Israel isn’t doing a whole lot to try and limit the number of them that die whenever a Hamas target is identified? They didn’t kill 55,000 of them being super careful along the way. They killed one out of every 30 people there, and they are still going.

Proportionately speaking, let’s say 1500 Israelis we’re killed on 10/7. Given their respective populations (using a 2023 estimate for Israel of 9.76M), assuming 2.3M Palestinians lived in Gaza at the time of the attack that would be equivalent to about 354 Palestinians being killed.

Using 55,000 Palestinian deaths since the start of the Gaza War as the comparison (probably an undercount), Israel has now killed the equivalent of 233,320 Israelis, or roughly the population of the 6th largest city in Israel [Netanya], with more still to come. And that doesn’t include the thousands of Palestinians killed before 10/7.

And, Israel is currently doing about the equivalent of a 10/7 on the Palestinians every 10 days on top of intentionally starving them.

And again, that doesn’t include all of the injured - especially all of the women and children who’ve been intentionally targeted to ensure they can’t reproduce again, and all the children who managed to survive that who’ve have had arms and legs blown off.

Apparently, though, that’s still not enough for some people. They want even more. The more the better, whatever it takes to defeat Hamas.

Hamas also kicked a hornet’s nest. Those hornets are behaving the same way.

oh ok thanks will go

Iran was once an oasis of scientific discovery. Neil DeGrasse Tyson makes the point about naming rights. We use the Gregorian calendar because they invented it, none of this BCE nonsense.

Persia made significant discoveries in the middle ages and enjoy the naming rights as a result.

We’d all be better off if the Iranian theocratic dictatorship imploded, but most of all would be the Iranians themselves.
