I find it hard to drink more than four cans as I start to feel a bit bloated. I’m not sure why that is, as I don’t get the same effect when I drink regular beer.
if you chugged 120 fl oz (just short of a gallon) i think the main bloated feeling would come from the 120 fl oz, carbonated or not. would likely create more feeling to react to than the effects of a single regular beer equivalent hiding amid 108oz of water
When I was early in sobriety I had a little pity party over not being able to drink, and went on a bender with 4 16-ounce N/A beers.
Can’t say I felt anything - mayyyybe the slightest buzz, but very well might’ve been placebo. It was like drinking a 2% ABV beer over 90 minutes (I didn’t just chug them straight-up, might’ve vomited from carbonation and volume.)
I bought $150 of beer from the partake website. More peach gose, pale, blonde, dunkel, and Hefeweizen. The last two are limited releases so I hope they aren’t TOO good.
I need to take a break from buying more beer, my beer fridge is full! I think i was up to around 60 beers, probably about 20 different flavors. You can take the alcohol out of the beer, but your can’t take the beer drinker out of me!
Ooh I didn’t even think of purchasing online. Is the shipping not terrible?
Edit: Not… terrible. No shipping cost. I was surprised at the $27 price tag but that is a 12-pack and I’ve been buying 6-packs.
Ironic I could down $15 of cheap alcohol most evenings without thinking and now $27 for a 12-pack that’ll last 2-3 weeks is a bit much.
Different topic, my partner is about to complete their Dry February. They recognized that they were drinking 2-3 glasses of wine casually, without really thinking about it, every day and decided to cut back.
They were successful. I was a bit frustrated with them a week in when they had a bad day and kept saying “UGH I picked the wrong month to stop drinking, I could use a drink…” and in my head I’m going “Oh wow, must be so hard.” But I’m truly proud of them. That was just my addict brain giving negative thoughts. Since it wasn’t a constant thing and decreased throughout the month I didn’t bring it up.
Anyway, they said to me that they were going to continue limiting their drinking, mostly to weekends or special events like our generally-weekly D&D. I expect, as they had begun before Dry February, they will also reach for N/A beers as often as alcohol. Especially the Partakes, as they are actively dieting. 25 calories versus 150-250ish (or more for multiple drinks) is a worthy tradeoff to not get slightly buzzed, when you’re significantly limiting food intake. Gives you an extra apple or something to fit in.
Just called our local store and found the Partakes are <$2 apiece, and the website has them at $2.33. Might order some if our store doesn’t carry the flavor, but we loved the Peach Gose so I’ll just buy a bunch there.
Would kind of prefer to support an N/A company directly rather than finance a liquor store, but if it’s cheaper..
Yeah they’re more expensive online, but I haven’t been able to find any non-IPAs locally other than the gose, so I just sprang for it.
You can find some coupon codes to cut off 10-15%, but generally need to buy a case to get to the free shipping, which then gets it to you cheaper than buying in the store (per can).
So . . . you’d support a liquor store that sells something as a loss-leader in the hopes of a relapse? ![]()
Might consider that the slightly higher cost is supporting that N/A company more directly than the loss-leader approach . . .
That’s pretty much exactly what I mean, yeah. I don’t enjoy giving money to the liquor store, but I more enjoy having the difference of cash.
Well, i went ahead and put in an order. They have 20% off… winter20. They are out of the hefe, so i bought some dunkel, pale, and hazy. Free shipping, no tax.
My order is arriving tomorrow. Fast shipping.
I got the email from FedEx that I had a 50lb package coming without any details about the sender, and it took me about 10 minutes to figure out what it could possibly be. Ohh, yeah, I overordered a shit ton of non-beer! Obvi.
Grr. I tried to apply this and no dice. How did you get the code, was it just a popup?
Maybe if I leave in cart and return later it’ll show.
Nevermind - scoured the internet and found “welcome20”. I missed out on a 25% code that’s expired now. With the code it’s roughly the same price as the liquor store, maybe a little under (forgot the exact price they said.)
Sad they’re out of the Hefeweizen but got my Peach Gose…
aaaand they don’t deliver to me. Shit.
The site seems glitchy…it was on the main screen when I went to their site and was added automatically to the listed price once I hit “shop now.” I had to refresh a couple times to get it to show up again just now.
Bummer on the delivery. I was a little surprised that many states have no restrictions on the “NA” beverages given I am still “carded” here at the grocery store (the self scan asks for it, but I have been sufficiently grey enough for years to avoid any actual carding).
I am also carded for N/A beers, but on the flip side when I order delivery I used my spouse’s ID multiple times for liquor when it was more at-hand than mine. They never checked.

Wow, I recall one time when my ex-husband and I were at Costco and I didn’t have my ID. He wanted a bottle of Dom Perignon (the alcohol of choice for all underage drinkers, right?) and he had his ID so it shouldn’t have been a problem.
Except they decided that we both needed our IDs or they weren’t going to let him buy the bottle. WTF? I could have just waited in the car but it was cold. And I had my Costco membership card showing that I’d been a Costco member for 8 years. You have to be 18 to get a Costco membership. And it was a joint membership. Nope. By the way, he was 37 and I was 31 at the time.
What finally got them to let us buy the champagne was when I pointed out that if they really thought I was only 20 then that made him old enough to be my father, and they are allowed to sell alcohol to parents who are in store with their underage children.
My then-husband (who was already a bit sensitive about our age difference) did NOT appreciate me saying this, but he WAS relieved that we could finally be on our way.
I can’t even begin to imagine them not noticing that the ID was for a whole different person, and IIRC, a whole different gender as well.
Well, I mean Shipt shoppers delivering, and they don’t give a shit. They don’t even look at the ID, just scan the back and move along. Apparently it doesn’t matter if the ID matches the person ordering.
I definitely had that situation in college when underage and with a friend buying alcohol. It wasn’t even for me, but my friend tried, was denied for me being with them, then my friend tried again without me (opposite end of some 30 lanes) and was caught and told “no, or you’re banned”.
