Like I said, I had a super quiet one, but it didn’t stay super quiet.
Interesting…i do not use the heated dry setting. It melts plastic and makes all the glass too hot to handle if you want to empty it rights when it is done running.
OK, fair point if the insulation is slowly melting from the inside.
What I would like is a lightly heated dry. One that doesn’t melt plastic but will get the dishes a little drier than not adding any heat.
But I’m not sure that exists.
A little bit of air circulation inside would probably do it. I just deal with the bit of water that is left on top of the coffee mugs that tend to collect it by dumping them onto the open DW door, and shake off the plastic containers in the sink. Everything else in there is effectively dry since the final rinse water is so hot.
The heated dry IMO is mostly an energy wasting nuisance.
I remember reading never to put plastic in a dishwasher (or microwave). Not sure if they were referring to heated dry setting -
The last dishwasher I got was one of these guys. 42db? Basically silent. I like the 3rd rack, and how it opens itself when it’s done.
Also it cleans dishes, so better than our last dushwasher.
The first few years we always used heated dry, then it seemed to not work as well so we stopped. Maybe we got lucky that the heated dry conked out before the soundproofing?
Even if you’re not explicitly paying for it, it’s probably better for the environment to run at night when the utility company likely has excess capacity than during the day when you’re making the peak a teensy bit higher. If everyone washed dishes overnight that could make a difference.
Ugh. You had to start talking about a dishwasher…
Mine’s never worked since I bought the house. And now that my daughter is living with me I sort of want one.
Hmmm good to know. Heat damages plastic so probably makes sense to avoid that, although without the heater I can’t see how it would be too much different than washing it with hot water in a sink. I guess the DW can make the water hotter than what comes out of the faucet from the water heater.
I think the one I bought is still under $900 at Costco including installation & haul away. The $550 off sale ended and a new sale began.
If helpful, check back next week for my review. And/or nudge dothemath for more details about which one he bought.
There are cheaper ones to be had. Mine is stainless steel and quiet. If you get the landlord special (used primarily in blue collar apartments) then it will be a lot cheaper and probably still do an adequate job.
Having a properly functioning dishwasher is REALLY nice. This is not something I care to live without.
Looks similar to the one I got. And I felt bad about paying $150 more for mine, but by the time I added in the fees for delivery, installation, and removal of the old one I was up to $824.96 plus tax and I have a sneaking suspicion that the installer would have found a hose or two that needed replacing once on site so that might have made up the $25.04 difference. And that was with no warranty. Mine has a warranty. Which is maybe worth something (maybe not).
I will say this for Best Buy: if you didn’t want all 3 of delivery, installation, and haul away they do make it easy to either do it all yourself or do just delivery & installation or just delivery & haul away.
If you want all of the services then not much difference.
Yup. We run ours every other day, since there are only three of us in the house. But since we refurbed the house and backyard, we are hosting more. So, lots of dishes and glasses and flatware, and I ain’t handwashing all that.
Our new one (two or three years now) has that flatware rack on top, which is great because some of our flatware won’t fit in the “cage” on the bottom (too wide at the at the end of the handle, not anything I would have bought, for precisely this reason).
.
A more important question:
How energy efficient are these dishwashers?
We have smart meters installed at home and I have been investigating the power usage of various white goods just for curiosities sake.
Yeah, this one has the third rack… I’ve never had that before and am super curious to try it.
This is very similar to the one I bought. It’s on the higher end for dB, but I doubt I could tell the difference between 44dB and 39dB unless it was a side by side comparison.
Dunno… it says it’s Energy Star Certified…
Estimates the energy will cost $24 a year if you have a gas hot water heater and $34 a year if you have an electric hot water heater… YMMV.
I have a gas hot water heater and solar panels so hopefully decently low operating costs.
Looks pretty similar to the one I got. Different model number but I’m not sure what the difference is.
ETA: Oh, mine has the hidden display and yours has a display panel. I honestly don’t even know which is supposed to be better. But that’s the difference.
Well I’m glad to know that you like yours since I bought almost the exact same thing. And the difference isn’t something I actually care about. I assume they both do an equally good job cleaning the dishes. The interiors seem identical.
