I am going to buy this (these) today and reasons why

I have a 50 dBA Bosch from ~2010 and a 47 dBA Whirlpool from 2021. I saw Kitchenaids at 44 and 39 dBA. Those noise levels seemed like a bit of a premium even 3 years ago.

I can barely hear the Whirlpool in my living room about 30 feet away (all open and all hard floors so sound travels)…I think it is only if the spray is hitting the door at a weird angle off something.

I appreciate this feature at most AirBnBs that sound like they have an ICE running inside their DWs.

Eh, I almost always schedule the d/w to run overnight, so noise level isn’t that important.

Why overnight? Energy savings of some sort?

I liked overnight washing when machines were noisy - so long as your bedroom is sufficiently far away, I suppose. Nowadays I don’t even mind being in the kitchen while it’s running because it’s so quiet.

Some folks have electric rates that vary with your peak load for the month, so they wash dishes and clothes late at night when the AC isn’t running.

I run it when it is full, which is usually after dinner, and done before I go to bed.

I would have ordinarily just said shrug that’s just how I’ve always done it.. but I actually have a reason now.

When we redid our kitchen, the plugged in the insta-hot in the same outlet as the d/w. Well, the guy who installed the new d/w said they really shouldn’t be plugged into the same outlet, so he didn’t. But, after he left, I pulled the d/w back out and plugged the insta-hot back in. So now, I run the d/w overnight so it doesn’t run at the same time as the insta-hot.

We have open plan, our TV is only about 20 feet from the dishwasher. We couldn’t watch TV when our old Frigidaire (2013 or 2003, couldn’t tell) was running. Our new Bosch 500 is 44 dBA and is so quiet that we got a shock when we heard the gurgling sound in the pipes when it started emptying.

What’s the insta-pot have to do with anything?

Oh, insta-hot? I guess that is a mini water heater near the sink?

Correct. Really handy if you drink a lot of tea and instant coffee.

Does yours illuminate the floor so you know it’s on? I thought that was a neat feature, you get below 45dB and that is super quiet.

My current DW is a pretty middle of the road model that replaced a top of the line one from 2005, it is slightly quieter but probably at half the price. They all seem crazy quiet these days. Except those in the Air BNBs, they still roar like a rocket. Maybe $299 models.

Yes, it illuminates the floor with a red light. It was only installed a few days ago so still getting to know it.

Meh, I wouldn’t pay extra for that. The sound insulation will not last nearly as long as the dishwasher does in my experience. So sure… it’s quiet NOW… but how quiet will it be in 5 years?

This is the way.

Hmmm… my new one is 44 dBA … not sure about the red light on the floor. I’ll let you know. I should have quite a stack of dishes by the time it’s installed later this week so it will be pressed into service right away.

You have to exercise the gaskets! Good luck with the new machine.

Maybe some mechanical parts get a bit noisier over time, but i would not expect the insulation to wear out. It’s fixed position foam in the door panel.

When we replaced our dish washer about 5 years ago we went with a quiet model (open floor plan with TV close by). It is just as quiet today as when it was new. Other than a little noise when it is draining at the very end you can’t tell it is running.

Well hopefully the soundproofing is better now than it used to be. I bought a place that had a new dishwasher installed in 2007 that was so quiet I’d open the door mid-cycle and be confused why everything was so wet because I’d forgotten it was running.

By 2012 it sounded like an ordinary, non-soundproofed dishwasher.

I was told the deterioration of the soundproofing happens slower if you don’t use the heated dry setting. @Quasi (Welcome back!) do you tend to use heated dry?

The noise level is one of those things where you probably won’t care about it if you have always lived with it, but once you have a quiet one, will start to notice it everywhere else.
