Local here. Probably shore fishing on lakes/ponds.
Bought an electric fireplace on Amazon, which came with damage.
Contacted the seller to see if they could replace 1 part. They said sure, it will be there in 3-5 business days.
5 business days later, UPS still doesn’t have the item to ship. Contact the seller. They say give it another 24 hours. I do. UPS still doesn’t have it. I contact them again. Nothing. Contact them the next day. They say 24 more hours. 24 hours later, contact Amazon. They give me a $20 credit and say it will be here in 24 hours. 24 hours later, UPS still doesn’t have it.
Back to Amazon again. Full refund for the $370 fireplace. Hoping the replacement part still arrives, but if not, we’re going to use it anyway. The damage is on the back of the fireplace and a TV will conceal it.
I would have been satisfied if the seller originally told me 2-3 weeks, but I’ll take this free.
Amazon and Apple have the MacBook Air M3 for $850. My MacBook just died so I think I am going to pull the trigger on this.
The m series chips are underrated. They will absolutely smoke pretty much anything Intel or amd offer without paying thousands just for the processor.
I spent a lot of time and money trying to get a PC to reasonably run a graphics program. Nothing but crashes or 1 hour run times. Bought the cheapest m2 I could get, ran everything in minutes and no more crashes.
I’m no apple fan, but these chips are better by an order of magnitude than anything else…and without the associated price.
kid bought one for college (well, i did) for $1K but it had a $150 gift card. so $850. guy across the street is a recently retired Apple Genius and said that’s what he’d have bought too
Replacing a 23-year-old Lexus iS300 with 140k miles [mechanic basically creamed his shorts when I brought it in for a checkup, he had one and loved it) that I inherited from my father and my son subsequently banged up during a rainstorm with a 14-year-old Chevy with 79k miles. Same kid will be commuting in this to and from community college for a couple of years, so needs to be reliable but not too flashy. I think this is the right choice.
I just got one for basically that reason (screen on my prior MBA cracked just enough to annoy me). It is nice having tasks that previously took time now become virtually instant. Also upgraded memory so that BG3 will work better, but haven’t had time to test that yet.
Dishwasher… I’m tired of not having one that actually gets the dishes clean.
Bosch?
The last one we had was a Bosch. Kept clogging up. Also, it didn’t have a delay setting.
Samsung now. Matches the rest of the appliances.
I ended up going with a KitchenAid from Costco. It was on sale and today was the final day for the sale and it seemed to have ok reviews so I bit the bullet. Had a KitchenAid dishwasher several houses back that did a fine job, so hopefully this one will too. Costco claims there are no extra fees for installation kits and hauling away the old one and such.
It was supposedly $550 off due to the sale ($849.99 vs $1,399.99), but I’m seeing similar to $849.99 at other stores… but then they charge you extra for the installation kit and hauling the old one away and such. So I don’t think I actually saved $550, but maybe I got an ok deal.
Oh, this one has a 4 hour delay setting. Seems like most have the choice between 2, 4, or 6 hour delays. 4 is fine though.
Problem is that I’ve been so programmed to not use it that I’m in a reprogramming mode right now. Fortunately BF is a big fan of the delay feature so hopefully he will remind me that he doesn’t consider it a moral failing to use that feature. (Come to think of it, I had a boyfriend, like 20 years ago, who - like STBX - was vehemently opposed to using the delay feature. So I’ve had it doubly programmed that I shouldn’t do it. Glad my current BF is ok with it.)
It will also heat up the water for both the wash and the rinse, so I will no longer have to worry about that. And it filters out food particles. So in theory if I put a glass and a plate that has a bit of spaghetti sauce on it in the same load, the glass won’t be coated with spaghetti sauce spices when it comes out, which is what’s happening now.
I think we have that same washer. It works fine and I like the delay feature. I turn it on when I go to bed, and in the morning dishes are done, but they are still warm.
It’s a couple years old and all I’ve had to do is unclog it one time when some stuff got stuck in the impeller. Pretty easy to take apart once I watched a video.
Hmm I bought a KitchenAid at about that price point from an appliance store. I paid about $150 for installation and haul away, which I was happy to pay. They did a fine job. I’m curious to hear how your free installation and haul away goes.
I have the option to set delay by the hour up to 24 hours! I have never set the delay to 24 hours.
My Samsung has 1-hour increments, up to 24 hours, cuz it is merely a programming thing and they decided to be very flexible. 1-4 is plenty, as I have a (adult) kid who often comes home late and makes himself a snack.
I have found that Costco is almost always the best way to go once you include all the fine print. The installation service will include more (like haul away). The product might have an upgrade over the Amazon or Best Buy equivalent (like computers). There is often an add-on freebie for price controlled products like Apple or SONOS.
The two year warranty is nice as well, although they used to cover just about anything that you used their store CC to purchase as well and not just the major purchases. Had a fancy hair dryer go out after a year or so and they replaced it no problem.
Noise level IMO is the key feature of a dishwasher (after getting the dishes clean).
Yeah, when we replaced ours that was one thing we really noticed. The new one was significantly quieter. Not that the old one rattled the house but sometimes with the new one we don’t even notice it running when we are in the kitchen. Before, you always knew it was running if you were in the kitchen.
