I guess the R was a little too obscure to N on that last one.
When my son was younger we got him the dirt bike equivalent of this. He must have put four thousand miles on that thing.
Battery operated CO detector for our tent for next weekend. I run a woodstove in the tent and never bothered, but one of the students wanted it. Plus 30 mylar sheets (those safety blankets they hand out at the end of runs). Apparently you can put them between the ground and your sleeping mat and it reflects the heat back up to you.
My daughter just got a similar pair from goat. She said we should get the same ones but i declined (cheap actuary, not a shoe guy).
Mylar is a good reflector, but not a good conductive insulator. So having it in an airspace/vacuum serves well, but it isn’t a good insulator if objects are touching it. Iirc.
Yeah I agree. But right now it’s every little thing helps. Forecast was originally calling for minus 19c but that’s upgraded to -9c. So maybe we won’t bother with the mylar.
Will need it for the polar dip though. We are going to chainsaw a coffin sized hole in the ice and go for a swim. Mmmkay. Not my idea. One of my friends from Tunisia has been asking to do this for over a year now, so this weekend it’s go time
Is he going to coat himself with grease first? Do you have a way to warm him up after?
It is effective as a loosely draped cloak, like the typical usage post race. So it would probably be good to bring.
That sounds… dangerous. Has he heard of people getting trapped under the ice and drowning?
You know they’re more likely to die in a plane crash while driving up there than this happening, yes? … and that Finns all over the world, but especially those in Finland have been jumping in a hole in the ice for milleniariums?
Ok, I guess it depends on what water you’re doing this in. I had always been under the impression that it was dangerous and that people have died that way.
We are going to the middle of a frozen lake in canadas north. Should be fine.
We have hot tents so we will get the fire rolling first. And a rope.around us so we dont lose the body.
Im going in too. Ill let you know how it was.
Some years ago i went in a lake up north in november. I went in it was cold. Then it got like bitter. Then i hit a thermocline and it was electrical. Beyond cold.
You guys have fun doing that and the please do post about it. I will read about it from my 74 degree heated house… I might even need to light a fire as just reading about it might make me cold.
That sounds horribly stuffy. I live in a hot humid climate much of the year but in the winter I barely kick my heater up over 66 unless we have company.
And I, on the other hand, keep my office at 78 degrees. 80+ is preferred, but that can be a challenge to maintain.
Do you not wear clothes at home?
I do. I just don’t like being cold.
If I’m doing housework I might turn it down to 73.
Actually I just looked at the thermostat. 74 is what the AC is set at. Heat is at 71. My mistake.
