I am going to buy this (these) today and reasons why

Speaking of appliances that I may need to buy soon…

I’m currently waiting for the repair tech to come and fix my dryer for the 4th time since 2016. Every time, it’s been related to the same issue. The lint trap. 3x a piece of clothing got caught on the edge of the trap and stopped the drum from spinning, and 1 time, the seal failed and all the fluff got into the insides.

It seems like it’s just a design flaw and I should just replace it.

That’s pretty much how ours works, so yours is hopefully the same. Dishes come out pretty warm, but not so hot they would melt.

My sister moved in with her now husband. One day she says "you need to fix the dishwasher’. Her husband…‘what? It works’.

Six months he never said anything. Just laughed to himself. Lol.

Cable streaming box because the old box is pooched (see Annoyed Thoughts thread)

And it’s gonna save about $20/month with the new channel package!!

No Smart TV?

Nope, just a plain ol’ dumb TV. :man_shrugging:

I’ve still got a plasma from 2007, no tuner at all, no speakers, it’s just a 50” monitor. But it’s a Pioneer Elite, and you can pry it from my cold, dead hands.

Lol, that awkward 18 month period where they stopped making Plasma TVs before LED achieved a higher contrast ratio.

Also, you might want to check the noise insulation level of the wall behind that TV, there is a good chance it has degraded.

The accuracy of colors and the ultra deep blacks were never matched by the LCD or LED, in my opinion. I’ve got a TOTL Samsung LED from 2015 and the Pioneer is better except the resolution sucks. Now OLED… I think they are really, really great.

But the Pioneer Elite and the Panasonic that followed (forget the model number), they were the GOAT for years. Before that probably the old Sony Wega tubes, those were ridiculous in 1998.

It was a great technology for sure, but only really superior on a metric few people cared about. Plus those things were stupid heavy. I had a 65" one die back in 2019 or so and i think it might be the biggest pain in the ass thing to get out of my house that i have.

I guess I’m in the minority, I still 100% love my Pioneer. It’s just so life-like. Agree on weight, mine is a 50” and it must weigh 80lb+. It’s on a cast iron and marble stand, it’s fine.

And the amount of electricity it uses. I got a UPS and plugged things in and when I got to the plasma it started freaking out. So now I only have the receiver plugged into the UPS. I also have the ability to monitor my power usage and that plasma uses like 400-600 watts. LCD’s don’t come close to that.

It does produce a LOT of heat.

Plasma is kinda hot. Not the kind you sell, but the kind in tvs.

Do you set it on a timer and run it at night to save on energy costs?

After hemming and hawing for a few days, I also got one of the Macbook Airs that are still on sale at Amazon. It will replace a fairly old Windows laptop that was already pieced together from two broken laptops.

I’m on my second Macbook Air. My first one lasted 9 years and I’ve had this one for 3. I use a wireless keyboard and mouse when I’m sitting at my desk though (with the laptop on a stand), so maybe it helped its longevity.

I hope you like it.

My third Mac Air - each pretty much lasted 7 years with the last two both having to be plugged in all the time.
