His immigration EO seems short-sighted - it’s partially what the GOP wanted, but now they can rail against it being a bad idea because they didn’t propose it after they originally shot down their own requests. Meanwhile, refugees and other migrants are harmed and my impression is that most liberals aren’t impressed. It feels Biden is just trying to do something to insulate himself from attack.
The war in Gaza. I know he can’t wave a hand and end it and has to carefully tread a middle ground. He’s applied some pressure and made statements I support, but has only taken half-measures.
Old, I guess? I’m supposed to care a lot about this one but it’s more “there’s a small chance that his VP will have to fill the Presidential role, good thing I’m voting for a ticket and not just one man.”
Overall, he seems to be among the best Presidents of my lifetime. I give him a solid 8/10 like Obama, who also did a lot of good things and some meh.
Biden is our worst President since Carter. In some ways, he’s worse. Carter was a fool, but an honest one. He would flat out tell everyone his thoughts and he stuck to his ideals. Biden has voted with the center of his party no matter where that lay his entire career. He doesn’t lead.
Build Back Better, the Afghan pullout, the laughably name Inflation Reduction Act, the Southern Border and the (mis)handling of Ukraine are all abject disasters that didn’t have to happen. I’ll grant there are basically no good answers to Israel/Gaza issue.
I happen to think BBB and IRA are both stunning success to set us up for the future, you obviously disagree.
The Afghan pull out had the tragic loss of 13 American lives in the bombing at the Airport sure but how many died in the never ending war under Bush-Obama-Trump? Oh and I’m pretty sure it was Trump who set the terms of the withdrawal or did you want Biden to scrap that and ignore our agreements?
As for Ukraine, I’m pretty sure that was Congressional Republicans stonewalling aid for close to a year that was the mishandling but it’s hard to tell with some members of congress these days if the R stands for Republican or Russian. I guess this is where I could break out the ever popular - why not both gif.
The Southern border has been problematic for well not quite as long as Israel/Gaza but sometimes it seems that way. It’s been an issue since GWB at least an neither party when having House/Senate/Presidency has really done squat about it. In an effort to solve the Ukraine issue, Democrats pretty much gave Republicans the bill they have been asking for but for some reason a convicted felon convinced them not to vote for it. Party of law an order indeed.
As for Israel/Gaza there have been periods it’s been better and periods it’s been worse going back as far as I can recall which is the Carter administration. I doubt anything is going to get done with the current Hamas leadership or Bibi heading Israel but maybe we’ll see some positive change there in the next few months on both fronts.
I use the Iraq War as my benchmark of “useless death and monetary waste”, because Afghanistan was also largely wasteful but ostensibly once had a point other than fake WMDs. And I see nearly 4,500 American deaths relative to the 13 who died in the Afghanistan withdrawal. Biden delayed beyond the date of May 1st, saying we will not have a hasty withdrawal, while Trump publicly claimed credit for the withdrawal.
At a rally on July 24th in Phoenix, Trump again boasts, “I started the move out of Afghanistan,” adding “I think it was impossible for him [Biden] to stop it, but it was a much different deal."
I like that he led into that with his “the media was really focused on your safety… what about mine? I’m sweating like a dog!”
So, after saying his supporters don’t really matter (several hospitalized and a couple dozen treated on site), he follows up by saying “I’m barely sweating at all!” just before launching into his random shark/electricity story.
I love watching his supporters behind him when he does these things. You can see the dual thought processes of “WTF is he saying?” and “I swore fealty to this god-man and can’t give up my sunk cost.”
Yeah it seemed pretty straight forward even if it’s a charge not often brought on by itself. I think their hope was either convincing the jury he wasn’t on drugs when he signed the form or jury nullification.
As a first time offender, like Trump, I’m expecting a reasonably lenient sentence and the subsequent Republican outrage that will follow,
IIRC this was part of the original plea bargain that got nixed because the judge said it was too good a deal or something like that. No clue how the judge in this case leans so I guess we’ll see when sentencing comes.
As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal. Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that.
I’m not worried about the judge being appointed by Trump unless there are other factors indicating unacceptable bias. While we know that the Federalist Society successfully installed a large number of handpicked judges, I don’t see the result of this trial being unfair.
I mean, uh. Witch Hunt. Deep State. Socialist extremist Antifa.
