Hunter was trying to write off hookers and 5 star hotel vacations as business expenses. Also failed to report some of his Burisma income. Only like $3M in tax liability, not much. More than any of us are likely to pay over the next 15-20 years. Complete nonsense. ![]()
If he has a $3M tax liability, wouldn’t that imply something like a $9M income?
Also, what you’re describing sounds more like tax fraud rather than simply failure to pay.
Hmmm, first hit when I Googled “Hunter Biden taxes” said he owed $100,000 on $1.5 million of income. That’s pretty different from owing $3M.
Oh, but CNN says he owes between $1.1 and $1.5 million.
I am super confused. PBS article did specify that the $100,000 was for tax years 2017 & 2018, so maybe there’s more from other years? CNN article doesn’t say.
Sorry I think I counted in the amounts for earlier years that the DOJ managed to let slip past the statute of limitations. You know, just like the IRS lets everyone else slide past the statute of limitations on tax crimes.
Yeah if this is the case, throw his ass in jail or at least make in pay the liability plus penalties, interest and fines, if applicable.
Then lets go after all the politicians, lobbiest and other corporate types doing the same. Hire a bunch of IRS agents to audit high net worth individuals returns and collect that missing tax income that folks like Hunter have been scamming. Oh that’s right Republican hate the idea of hiring additional agents and want to kill that.
Whether it’s $1.5M or the $3+ million that RDO cites doesn’t really matter, it’s a lot of money either way and certainly worth pursuing recovery by the government.
I’m not sure if this is sarcastic or not, but this absolutely happens all the time.
Yep. Full audit for everyone serving in office and everyone that has access to them. Audits all around baby!
My experience is the IRS is kinda cool. Back in the day I missed a quarterly payment. I couple of years later I got a five digit tax bill and a threatening letter. After I checked and saw my mistake we called them up and on that first call arranged a very reasonable monthly payment. Done and done with no penalties.
Oh sure, I’m absolutely not suggesting that they let him get away with anything. Just trying to understand the situation, that’s all.
My parents were audited, and the auditor found that they’d overpaid their taxes. They got a refund.
I’m all in favor of fully funding the IRS. They should answer the phone when taxpayers have questions, and they should chase after tax cheats.
The Biden’s openly acknowledge Hunter’s illegitimate child.
Is this phrasing still a thing?
OK, I guess it is “considered outdated and offensive.”
According to the Bing AI, “child born out of wedlock” is more commonly used today." TIL.
This makes me like him more, to be honest. Not that I’m following Hunter all that closely but he came out and said, “I messed up, I was on drugs and don’t remember this but I’m taking responsibility now”, and it seems he paid all of the child support and such he was supposed to and is in his child’s life.
(Edit: I also haven’t heard illegitimate child used since John Edwards.)
Except the part where he fought paternity, agreed to child support, didn’t pay, then sued to get it reduced and has never seen or contacted his 4yo daughter (as of April 2023). Perhaps he is now trying to do better, but he definitely started out contentiously.
Ah, well that wasn’t in the article so I’d no idea.
Altogether I really don’t care. Throw him in jail, don’t, whatever.
It is just one of likely thousands of terrible child support cases out there, ridiculously politicized without (to my knowledge) evidence of influence being applied to tip the scales. Hard for it to make my list to care about even when DNGAF Friday has cleared the decks.
It’s just more, “Lookie over there, while we destroy Democracy forever” ploys.
