A client of mine offered identical coverage for “legitimate children” and “natural children”. I bit my tongue and didn’t ask about adulterine children.
Golf clap on the in depth research and fact checking there. You may be in line to be Stanford’s next President.
I find it hard for me to get excited about what Hunter Biden did or didn’t do. He’s a grown man, he’s not his father’s responsibility. He’s not an elected official. Lots of people have embarrassing relatives.
If he broke the law, punish him just like anyone else who broke that law. If he didn’t pay child support, go after that. None of this belongs in the news.
Yes and no. For better or worse the children of a United States President are going to be in the news. I mean, it was in the news when Malia Obama walked to a Halloween party at a friend’s house, which quite frankly is a heckuva lot more mundane than any of the stuff with Hunter Biden.
Should it be that way? No. But no one should be surprised by it either.
I guess I didn’t say in that post that I don’t follow the timeline of Hunter Biden’s legal woes. This whole thing is just amusing. Of course, for whatever he’s guilty of, sentence him appropriately.
I think there’s a difference between a minor/dependent child of the president and one who’s an independent adult.
Eh, everything Trump’s adult kids did was in the news too. Also the Bush twins and Chelsea Clinton (who was an adult by the end of her father’s presidency). I don’t agree with it, but it comes with the territory.
Trump’s kids were also his employees.
Sure, but Bush’s & Clinton’s weren’t.
I guess there was less moral rage selection then. ![]()
If people click on it, it’s going to be in the news. Just like this thread will only stay high on this forum if people keep posting in it.
IIRC those sets may overlap, and adulterine are natural, but regardless of that, there may be case law about the presumption of one type or another having different legal rights. So that might be more of a CYA (which is exactly what I’d want in a lawyer) than value judgement.
My concern wrt presidential family members is 1) does the president try to use influence to benefit them, and to a lesser extent 2) does the family member try to peddle the presumed influence. And 2) is only if they go to extremes.
I remember Billy Carter being a bit of an embarrassment due to his good ole boy persona, but he got in a little trouble by accepting loans from Libya.
I thought reputable news organizations had standardized on “we generally won’t report on the President’s non-adult children unless the President makes them a part of his politics, or unless they do something truly newsworthy”.
Admittedly Hunter Biden isn’t a “non-adult”, and conspiracy theorists are hung up on the idea of his being a conduit to funnel money and political considerations between his father and rich foreign interests…
Trumps kid were working directly and indirectly with the White House, of course it’s news.
For the Hunter - Joe possible links of corruption and payments sure that’s news. What the family relation with Hunter’s out of wedlock child is, not so much.
You and I must get our news from different sources. I remember almost no news about about the Bush or Obama kids, or Barron Trump. I don’t recall anything about Tiffany Trump who apparently stayed away from politics.
I do recall stuff about Ivanka and Jared who had official roles in the WH. Also about Don Jr who was an active “surrogate”. Less about Eric.
Also it’s been a really boring presidency to gossip about.
Oh god, one time one of the Bush daughters got drunk at a college party and it was ALL OVER the news.
You know, because that’s highly unusual behavior for a college student to get drunk at a party one time. Certainly the business of the American public. Or Malia Obama attending a Halloween party.
I think one time as a teenager (maybe 16 or 17?) Sasha showed a teeny tiny bit of cleavage and it was all over the news.
Well, there is the multiple Biden dogs bite Secret Service agents on multiple occasions scandal.
24 hour news channels are destroying the country. I wonder if any of these made it onto the evening network news.
That sounds less like a scandal and more like a fun math problem for my kid.
