Hunter Biden Investigation

:iatp: this is where the Dems can’t do themselves a favor.

“These guys giggle about dick pics while we’re all suffering from heat waves, get these teenage boys out of Congress!”

And girls.

Why are you always on about women Stan?

Sounds like the plea deal between the Feds and Hunter Biden is dead.

Sounds like possible incompetence from both the prosecutors and the Hunter Biden legal team. When pressed by the judge on what specific immunity from future prosecution was attached to this plea deal, the 2 sides did not agree on what was off the table. Sounds like job one of any plea agreement to me.

LOL. They are now compromising and a deal is back on. Sounds like the only options taken off the table by the plea deal are tax charges for several years, weapons charges, and drug charges.

That seems fair. If he really had other illegal dealings with China or Ukraine or his dad or whatever or pretty much anything else, I wouldn’t expect that to be included.

Agree, sounds fair. It’s just bizarre that there was not a clear understanding between the 2 parties on what was included in the original plea deal.

Well appears there is going to be a trial now for the charges related to this.

Hunter Biden’s plea deal on hold after Republican judge raises concern over the ..

I fixed their headline.

And my reasoning for the headline: I thought we already went over this and found that the deal was not out-of-line with what has happened in other cases. Or maybe that was Legal Eagle. I don’t remember.

I haven’t seen this in any analysis of what happened, but given Republicans have been targeting Hunter Biden publicly for years and won’t stop even after this is settled, I could see a plea deal that would have granted him protection from some amount of additional nonsense from the conspiracy theory accusations. This is assuming the FBI and prosecutors would have covered these things and found no wrongdoing in any of it, which I think may be reasonable since they are not charging him on corruption charges. A judge could also reasonably say no to something like that.

I am sure Hunter is like WTF can I do to get these assholes to leave me alone.

The problem with trying to protect against nonsense is that for every one you protect against, someone can come up with another nonsense. Short of a pardon, I don’t think there’s any real protection that could be afforded Hunter.

I feel I must point out that that doesn’t mean I would be for pardoning Hunter, just that he can’t be protected.

In fairness it does seem like he’s guilty of something. I’ll obviously leave it to the courts to decide what that is, etc. but another way to protect against nonsense is to not commit tax fraud.

I said nonsense and imo tax fraud != nonsense. You may feel differently.

But also, it may be semantics, but imo not paying your taxes isn’t fraud, it not paying your taxes. I believe fraud involves intent to deceive. Not paying your taxes is certainly illegal, but I don’t think it’s fraud. But ianal, of course.

I mean if you don’t report your taxes appropriately… it’s either a mistake (whether by complete accident or failure to exercise appropriate diligence) or it’s fraud (e.g. Donald Trump under and over-valuing his properties to pay minimal tax.)

I’m not educated enough with the details of the H. Biden case to know which it was.

I am sick of all the spurious allegations though. I’ve seen family members spouting baseless claims off. I already knew they were ignorant but it’s sad to see it continue.

Is he filing his taxes and simply not paying the amount calculated on the return?

Or are the returns not being filed?

Or are they filed but people claim they’re wrong?

Three different issues and I’ve lost track of what the accusation is.

The wording that all articles I’ve read have used is just “failure to pay his taxes in 2017 and 2018”.

Huh,

I know Joe was the poorest member of the Senate in 2008, but I figured that as a family they had enough money to make ends meet, and surely being ex-VPOTUS led to lucrative speaking engagements and stuff, plus I thought Hunter himself made a crap-ton of money.

I wonder why he’d file a tax return and then not pay the amount that he calculated he owed.

As I said, I haven’t followed this situation too closely.
