How safe will you feel when vaccinated?

Wasn’t sure which thread to put this, but this is the kind of statement that can give a lot of people pause. Is the vaccine safe or not?

It comes down to a risk vs. reward analysis according to Lakin. “Polio was an easy one to put on the list. It was a childhood disease. The risk of the disease outweighed the risk of the vaccine by far,” Lakin said.

“With COVID-19 we are seeing children being hospitalized, we are seeing children become very sick. We are seeing long-term effects starting to happen with children. If at some point the disease outweighs the risks of the vaccine, that’s one of the things that we consider.”

We have gone over this many times, regarding many subjects:
“I TRY to make decisions regarding my actions considering more than the direct impact to my family and me.”
But, we have always disagreed on that.

 quit acting like you have higher morals than everyone else. it is getting really damn old. you don’t.

most people can get vaccinated, and most people who don’t either are too young (and therefore not at a high risk of complications from covid anyway) or just don’t wanna. there is only a very small subset of people who flat out can’t. i don’t even know anyone who can’t. even campbell’s husband who has cancer, can, he just puts it off.

It’s never going to be zero. We aren’t going to eradicate it. Vaccinate myself and then live my life.

I definitely wore makeup when I was young but not a lot. Before I wore it for others. Now I wear it for me. Hence, just the lipstick, although I just bought some new stuff so I can practice for my daughter’s fall wedding. That’s also for me, bc I know I’ll be happier with the pics if I wear some makeup.

that said, I have a friend vacationing in Brazil right now. wanted to hang out with him on my birthday, but he’s coming back from Brazil like 2 days before it, so even though I’m vaccinated and so is he and most of the other people I’m planning to see that day are, I’ve been advised by some of them, that it’s a super horrible idea to hang out with him cause he’ll have nasty Brazil covid variants and kill us all, even though vaccinated, so I probably won’t cause i care about people.

P1 Variant from Brazil can evade some of the immunity you got from the J&J shot.

Just do the standard PCr testing for Days 1 & 10.

Then you would know…not a threat.

me or him? he refuses to get a covid test upon re-entering the us. it actually isn’t even required if you’re vaccinated, even if you go to a country with a lot of cases and variants. he got pfizer though. not sure if that means he’s less likely to catch the brazil variant.

the cdc doesn’t seem to always have the best policies here.

I know one person who decided to “wait for more info” bc he is a transplant patient and apparently building immunity isn’t great for transplanted organs? (That was my understanding of a brief conversation.)

I guess you could also say he could but doesn’t want to. I tend to think “has a very good reason not to.”

I do know others who chose not to bc they question the science and/or the fact that there are no long term studies and/or believe the Bill Gates chip hype. But all but one of my Trump supporting family members got the vaccine when it was available to them.

ah, i see. but still, i don’t see holding up your life at some point for these one off cases. it sounds like it’s even questionable if he’s doing the right thing here.

Also, the drugs your friend is taking to avoid rejecting the transplant also interfere with building immunity in general, so the vaccine may not do any good in that case.

my mother has a call out to our vacation spot asking if they are revising their policy on mask wearing. waiting for them to call her back. they are probably scrambling to figure out what to do with the new guidelines.

my guess is they will go along with the CDC and say that guests who are fully vaccinated don’t have to wear masks, at least I hope so.

Lucy, yes I forgot about that part of the conversation. And he was obviously in conversation with his doctors regarding this decision, as well as following some science stuff about the vaccine and his particular transplant. This was all a few months ago.

How is this going to work for Cruise Ships?

They are asking for everybody to be fully vaccinated, but DeCrazo down in Florida seems to be blocking this.

Add in the “no masks required” mandate and I don’t see how you could possibly do a cruise safely.

Tough to be in the cruise industry.

i suspect cruises will stop being desirable entirely.

ugh, googled the state we are going to and they are ignoring cdc guidance aren’t lifting the indoor mask mandate, so it doesn’t even matter what the resort wants to do. sucks.

same with new york and new jersey not lifting anything. so ummmm, what in the world was the point of this?

This is more the messaging thread but I feel like it’s such an easy sell.

Go get vaccinated and you can go back to normal! Instead we get to focus on unbelievably rare events and give ammunition to antivaxers.

The CDC can’t compel any government or individual to do anything. They can only issue guidance and people are free to make whatever decision based on that guidance.

If I were you, I’d take your mask off at the spa, but have it and your vax card handy. If somebody asks you to put it back on, show your vax card and say the CDC says it’s ok. If they say put it or we’re kicking you out, well, then, put it back on.
