How safe will you feel when vaccinated?

We “require” kids to be vaccinated but most states make it so easy to get around that, that it barely counts as a requirement.

Fair enough; I’m not an expert on enforcement.

I recall that California was in the news a few years ago for strengthening the requirement / making it harder for people to get out of it.

I think I got a few vaccines prior to entering school but I got most of my vaccines in school. I remember when they had a bunch of nurses and such setup in the gym and we all went down class by class and got our shots and then the next year got the booster.

And that was back when nearly everyone got the shots. I don’t remember that there were any “opt out” reasons. But back then most of our parents knew people who had died of the diseases we were getting vaccinated against so it wasn’t hard to convince them to get their kids vaccinated.

While I don’t remember ever knowing someone who died of the diseases I heard enough from my parents that I was just as gungho to get my kids vaccinated.

My grandmother had a live-in maid who was mentally disabled, and I was told that that had been the result of a measles infection when she was a child. But I don’t know anyone who died of the diseases I was vaccinated against as a kid, either.

I do know a growing number of people who died of covid.

I entirely missed this until my mother just texted me about it. yay!

I hope my vacation spot doesn’t require masks now.

I’ll give you 50% odds that it will.

Hopefully a decent amount require it.

I do plan to only frequent places that require proof for unmasked inside dining/activities/whatever.

The only unvaccinated people that will admit as much and still wear a mask are those that can’t ve vaccinated due to an underlying medical condition.

Pfizer just submitted a request for full approval, but I got the impression that the process is quite long, like maybe 2022 or 2023?

Yup, yup. The CDC giving permission for vaccinated people to not wear a mask is basically giving permission for everyone to not wear a mask.

Yeah, I’d say it even encourages unvaccinated people to not wear a mask. Since now wearing a mask implies that you probably did something wrong.

Now, to appear normal, folks won’t wear a mask. And then since you’re already not wearing a mask, you won’t get vaccinated either.

Still, I agree with the CDC here. Things are safe enough here that we should prefer reason over psychology.

If you’re vaccinated, why do you care?

Why do I care whether mask-refusers spread Covid to others? Is that really what you are asking?

no, why would you purposely avoid places that don’t refuse service to these people? if you’re vaccinated, you’re doing your part.

i went to dinner with an unvaccinated person a few weeks ago. i’m not cutting people out of my life just because they aren’t vaccinated.

One of the problems with COVID deaths though is that they are so concentrated in the older population. Yes it is terrible when some 65+ dies of something that is preventable but it is so much worse when the deaths are concentrated in children or young adults like with most of the diseases that we got immunized for as kids.

If I were a business owner, I would probably try to continue requiring masks until 75% or more of the people in my area were vaccinated. Though I think in my area that would probably drive me out of business.

Exactly. The instant I became fully vaccinated the pandemic was over for me. I’m never going to be safer than I am now, so back to normal everything for me. Do I wish everyone would get the vaccine? Yes. But one of my friends hasn’t had it and I do high intensity maskless workouts with them. Not going to cut them out.

I guess this is why the pandemic isn’t actually over @MayanActuary

Would that make an anti-vaxer more or less likely fight against required vaccination of children?
