I finally found a tile contractor for my bath remodel. It’s 150 sq ft total including a tile shower pan and tiled shower walls. I know it’s a lot of work to do a custom shower pan and waterproof the shower walls, I’d expect that to cost $1,500 or so parts and labor. And then 150 sq ft at $15 per is $2,250 is what I expected. $15 is kind of high but a) it’s marble and b) it’s a small job so I’ll pay more.

One guy quoted me $9,500, which is borderline criminal. Second guy wanted $8,600. Third guy is bang on $4,000, and he’s been tiling for 20+ years. Now, he could be tiling incorrectly for 20 years but he seems pretty knowledgeable and has good references.

Don’t you read the papers: there are no innocent males these days…

Lumber prices seem sane, finally. In the summer of 2020 I paid about $11 for an 8’ 2x4, right now they are $3.75.

I would think anyone with an 8’ 2x4 to sell would be shipping it to Florida to sell it for $22.50

Our toaster oven finally bit the dust. I’ve hated that thing since day 1. Now I can go back to a regular toaster.

To each his own. For toasting bread, I prefer a regular toaster, bu the toaster oven can do other things too. We got our toaster oven before a microwave, and now don’t use the toaster oven much.

Yes, there was a time my daughter used it for things like chicken strips but now she uses the air fryer.

I just never really got used to it for anything other than toasting bread.

OK, it could have gone in Funny and SFW, but it was a happy thought too

Not so humble brag about having a working oven

For toasting bread in the before times i used my regular gas oven.

The before times meaning when i actually had gas

Oh ao_fan… I’d wager that most of us have working ovens! And the ones that don’t will be without for a few days.

I’m sorry that you are still waiting.

I mean, I guess technically yours works… you just can’t use it.

I wonder if you could buy the cheapest of cheap electric ovens for the interim and then sell it when you get your gas back? If not, maybe invest in a microwave/convection oven?

If im ever home again ill buy a toaster oven and i hear there are these self contained frying pan things. Probably not planning to be home until early December, but since this is going to take 6 to 8 months to complete i’ll probably buy those things.

There was a question in our newsletter about elecric ovens. They said it requires wiring in the building that would be more expensive to set up than just fixing the gas issue.

I have a microwave

As a backup plan you could look at this guy. I have one, and it does a decent job baking, and on broil it’ll toast things as well as a regular oven does. It also air fries although I haven’t tried that feature.

ETA: and it doesn’t use more amps than a regular microwave, so it should be fine with your wiring, but you may want to confirm that before you pop for one of these, they aren’t cheap.

Im not big into cooking. I mostly need something that works as a stove top to fry eggs and something to toast bread. Would that fry eggs?

Also not sure id want to buy a new microwave as i have a microwave and my apartment is pretty tiny to have more than one microwave.

It could replace your existing microwave since it does that too. I’m not sure about air frying an egg, if it were me I’d prefer a little counter top electric thing to fry eggs.
