Happy Thoughts

I signed up for the two-day class, in August. It’s only $50 and seems like a good thing to do regardless. 2 hours of virtual classroom stuff and then 12 hours over 2 days of driving stuff.

Is it a Motorcycle Safety Foundation class?

Not sure? It’s this: Basic Riding Skills (BRS)

Looks like it’s more of a local thing. Should be fun!!!

I’ve grilled a lot this summer. I don’t think I’ve ever gone through an entire Costco sized bag of charcoal on my own (usually bring it up to the august family camping trip for the rest of the family to use) and I’ve already finished off one bag this year.

We SLAMMED it on Saturday, booked a couple boats for a charter fishing expedition on Lake Erie. 6 UWaterloo students (me, plus 1 guy I knew, plus four I didn’t know).

A selection of walleye and rainbow trout. Around 25-30 fish total.
The kids had a great time, most of them it was their first time fishing, nevermind on a charter.

I don’t think the charter captain had ever seen a non-white person on the boat (and us mayo’s were in the minority). He called us his ‘big bang theory’ charter. Unclear if that was due to the diversity, or the fact that everyone was a stem major.

Also, I’m obtuse sometimes. One of the students was reeling in a walley and the captain says "it’s a female!'. I asked how he could tell, he tells me because it’s got it’s mouth open. My response, “really? when you reel in a female walleye they come in with their mouth’s open?”. And that my friends, was when the captain looked at me like I’m an idiot.

Me too, ‘cuz I’m afraid I don’t get it. Who is the female? The fish or the fisher or something else? Who has their mouth open? Why is it important that we identify subject as female?

It’s a lame joke. Because women are always talking.

Just went to the best wedding ever. Outside at a farm. The grounds were spectacular, out of a magazine. Landscaping, antique tractors, etc. Pretty good considering that two weeks ago there was a collection of ‘parts cars’ and a mountain of scrap metal and other assorted items that could come in handy sometime. Also pretty good considering the groom doesn’t have any front teeth and never wears a shirt, so you get the idea of the environment.
Meal was outside, bbq prepared by an indigeneous chef. Centerpiece was chicken, plus pork loin from the ornery pig they’d just raised, so it was, uh, fresh…
I cooked fries at 10:30pm for everyone as an evening snack, they were a big hit (I do make the best fries you’ve ever tasted, no exaggeration). Excessive drinking and loud music in the barnyard until 2:30. Fireworks. Everyone in our group of 6 (and everyone else there) was way drunk. I stayed sober because I didn’t want to be lit while working over hot oil, and after that I figured I’d just be the dd and save a cab. Sober or not, spouse and I had a freaking great time, lots of dancing and general shenanigans.
My uncle played the bagpipes. I got to try them which was pretty interesting. harder to keep the bag pumped up than you might think. Got some videos of that I guess, that won’t be posted online :).

The B1G Ten network just played compressed versions of the 1/1/95 orange bowl (Nebraks vs Miami) and the 1/1/96 fiesta bowl (nebraska vs Florida).

I felt very involved and happy to see them.

 you got a run today!!!

Darn, I lost $30 on my run toward the airport.

I was going to say “That’s one crazy exchange rate” but then I looked it up and realized that the Euro & Dollar are currently at a one to one ratio. I recall hearing grumblings about that, but never actually saw visual proof that it happened.

This is Eclipse. Every day she leaves home alone and takes the bus downtown to the dog park where she gets a few hours of exercise and makes friends, and then she takes the bus home again. She even has her own bus pass attached to her collar.

It started when her owner, Jeff Young, was taking too long when the bus came, so she impatiently ran ahead and got on the bus herself. The bus driver recognized her and dropped her off at the dog park, and later Jeff picked her up. After a few more rides on her own, Jeff started letting her ride by herself, and she always comes home a few hours later.

All the bus riders know her and she makes them smile, and many of the regular passengers are happy to see her every day and often sit next to her. Even the police have given their approval, as long as the bus drivers are okay with the arrangement. “She makes everyone happy.”

Google seems to agree this story is true, and that the dog is in Seattle. I guess I should have posted this in the thread for things DTNF should see in Seattle.
