Happy Thoughts

I can never find the really cool ones in a wide. I don’t need a wide except in Brooks.

We are starting to get somewhat credible data on how we’re doing with the new HVAC. It looks like our natural gas usage is down by about two thirds. We still have a gas water heater and gas stove, so that’s kind of fixed usage, but the heat pump does a ton of the lifting on heating the house. The gas backup only kicks on when it gets below 30F or so. Some day we’ll get solar panels, one day at a time.

You can get heat-pump hot water heaters and heat-pump all-in-one laundry machines. I am probably getting an induction cooktop to replace gas burners as my next change. Indoor air pollution from gas cooking is worse than previously realized.

Yep, and we’ll head that direction at some point. I’m not 100% sure but I think we’ll need to upgrade our panel to make that happen so it won’t be cheap. And by the time I need new HVAC equipment there’s a really good chance air source heat pumps will be workable and I can ditch gas altogether. I’ve been a hardcore fan of gas stoves for years but induction works really, really well.

This and about 10kW of solar panels, likely with a small-ish backup battery, and we’ll have a century home that’s clean and close to net zero. Cool.

Apparently I have been pegged as a “high potential” employee. Not sure what that exactly means, but I suspect it means they want me to take on roles where I spend even MORE time in meetings and playing politics.

It is a happy thought, because I enjoy being thought highly of, but I suppose it’s also a complicated thought too.

So when you reach your potential, do you become a “high” employee?

I’ve pretty recently discovered how to daydream, and now it’s my favorite part of the day as I drift off to sleep.

I find that fascinating…the “recently” part of it…

It’s not something that comes super naturally to me, it takes some effort. I guess I’m not super creative or whatever.

I like these shoes WAY too much to run in them, I want to keep them nice looking so I can wear them casually. And I’ve gotten so many compliments on them. So I bought another, more boring pair.
