Normal rates would apply, and we have ‘time of use’ plans. So as long as they are doing what I’d expect - charging it at night and discharging during the day - I would save money. There are several plans offered, the simplest breakdown I can give you is it would be roughly $0.15 per kWh during the day and about $0.04 overnight. Times a max of 16kWh (the size of the battery offered) per day, it could add up to a few bucks. And help ease the strain on the grid for the ~10 or so days per summer when it’s crazy hot.
So you pay for receiving at night. What about your use during day? Do you pay for what they can’t access to sell to your neighbor? Do you have “first claim” on battery output? Do they pay you full retail on what/when they take from the battery for your neighbors?
It’s a little vague on specifics, it would appear that for the most part whatever power I pay for (like charging the battery at night) is mine for use during the day. Except there is a note about ‘grid stabilization’ that I think means something like ‘if one of our generators goes down we may suck power out of the battery to put into the grid.’ But the indication is that, unless there’s some sort of grid failure, the power in the battery doesn’t leave my house.
And I can’t find the details on what happens if/when an incident occurs. I’d hope that my meter would spin backwards and I could sell the power either at the price I paid to buy it, or the prevailing price, whichever is higher. Good questions to ask if I’m selected!
my 98 yo dad, got to meet his 4 yo great grand daughter (my grand daughter)
When grandma starts squirting out kids at 17, this is less of a problem. My mother is like early 80s and has multiple great grandkids. Possible but unlikely she may see great great grandkids. My great grandmother did, we have a photo with that many generations. Combination of having kids early and living together late 90’s.
I think it’s wild that my great grandmother was alive in the time when horses were the only real mode of transportation and lives right through to the time of personal computers being commonplace.
I expect your pa was quite pleased.
There’s a five generation photo out there somewhere with me in it. And my great grandmother died when my son was 4 years old, so he had a great great grandmother alive for a few years, too. Both died in their early 100’s.
My MIL was 56 when she became a great grandmother. Lots of solid choices being passed down generationally in that family. And both her son and her granddaughter had kids in their 20’s……
Wife’s family had a 5 gen picture with my nephew as the youngest. Oldest was 100+. I think it would have been close for his daughter to be in a 5 gen, as his great grandma survived to age 104. Later gens have been mid 20’s years apart.
I assume you’re not referring to your son in the last sentence.
No, my son never met my great grandmother. I was in the infant in the aforementioned photo.
We have one great-grandchild. He’s 2. His grandpa (our 5th-oldest) was 14 when his mom was born. (At the time, mister 14 said he didn’t think any of his four older siblings would ever have kids.)
Ripleys Believe It or Not had a 17yo grandmother, culture seems to start breeding at 8
Put some cheese on my homemade bread and popped it into the toaster oven for a late night treat. So gooooooood!!! ![]()
We should have warm homemade bread sometime.
Planning on visiting our niece this week to watch one of her children play softball (an hour+ drive from our house). She’s making a jalapeno cheddar loaf and a rosemary parm loaf for us - yummy!
Yikes… Mini Me is younger than multiple grandchildren of my high school classmates, but I don’t know of anyone who became a grandparent earlier than mid-30s.
And some sweet pie!!! ![]()
McDonald’s had a shitty first quarter, so there’s 30% off on the app today. Works out, since we had to get our kids a quick dinner tonight.
Also our foster son would eat McDonald’s every single night if he could.
So there are two nuts that secure the handle on my air fryer and they kept coming loose despite locking washers. About six months ago I got the high-temp Loctite, and I think that finally did it, hasn’t come loose since.
