I think it’s time for a coffee, I tell ya what.
Came back from 2 week vacation in Punta Cana today. Great time. The happy thought: flight attendant moved us to the exit row since my wife is tall and the thought she would like the extra leg room.
(Unhappy thought: plane was delayed over an hour.)
(Not so happy thought, but give flight attendant credit for trying to be helpful.) Family of 3 was together in DEF seats (on right side of plane), opposite restroom (in center of plane). Father, fairly large, was in the D seat. Attendant noticed that the ABC seats directly in from of restroom were not being used, suggested the father might want to more there for more arm room. So entire family moved. Attendant said he was only trying to get more arm room for the father, and to let the other two be less crowded in D and F, but that they could all move if they wanted, which they did. Strange.
Finally went to check mail. Refund check from the dentist for one of the kids having their wisdom teeth cut out.
Kid is arguing to give it to her so she can pay for getting her wisdom teeth made into earrings and a necklace. Trying to leverage this into getting stuff done around the house.
That literally made me make this face.
How does one watch their electrolytes?
I track my potassium, sodium, choride, calcium, and magnesium amounts to make sure I’m getting enough of each.
Boring details:
While I don’t do keto intentionally, my diet sometimes has me in ketosis, just by nature of my carb restrictions. One of the things that’s common with first starting keto is “keto flu” which is hypothesized to be a shock to the system not only of carb withdrawal, but also electrolyte imbalances. Increasing electrolytes can mitigate this, especially potassium, salt (sodium and chloride), and magnesium.
I tend to not get enough potassium naturally in my diet no matter what I’m eating, I guess I just don’t like potassium-rich foods, so I often drink a bone broth drink mixed with a teaspoon of NuSalt, which is a table salt substitute made of potassium. If I need more sodium (less common), I’ll add in table salt, too.
I take magnesium glycinate at bedtime to help me sleep.
Liquid IV https://www.liquid-iv.com/ is palatable…actually, pretty good…it does have both sugar and artificial sweeteners, so there’s that.
We also bought some non sweetened “electrolyte drops” from ketochow.xyz.
I like keto chow shakes a lot, but I cannot stomach their electrolyte drops - it’s so umami and I have to add a bucket of True Lemon to it to make it palatable.
Also you can make your own electrolyte mixes for a lot cheaper! Morton lite salt (50% sodium chloride, 50% potassium) is a few bucks at the store, for example.
Was somewhat worried “the taste of the urine” was going to be part of that.
Oh that would have been the headline, believe me.
Some people have been known to yada yada yada the best part.
Speaking of electrolytes, for some years I would find myself exhausted throughout the day. Did a bunch of doctor’s tests, nothing. The thread where actuaries diagnose medical issues, I started because of that condition.
My son’s gf is a lot more holistic than me. SL, she’ll say, you should be eating/drinking this. To which I say, I would but that’s bullshit pseudo science, so actually no. One day she made me drink an electrolyte drink, and I did it just because. Had the drink. Went upstairs, slept for an hour. Came back downstairs in 100% top form (kisses both biceps, best shape of my life baby!) and I haven’t had the problem since.
Unbelievable. I must’ve been lacking some trace element that was in the drink. One drink resolved an issue that had been noticeably impacting my life over a couple of years. Huh.
:-?
he looks a little squishy, but there he is
Costco gas line was 4-5 cars deep in most of the lanes except at one pump, there were only two cars at the pumps and just one person in line. Not sure why. So I pulled in and then the two cars pulled out, and I cruised right up to the pump. Love when that happens.
Mr. NA and I are wearing our matching shirts today.
Doo do do doo do doo do doo do, doo do do doo do do doot! (IYKYK)
It’s snowing here, kids got a calamity day (not sure it was warranted, but they’re pleased). I don’t have a great view from my office, it looks out into our alley, but there is a big evergreen tree back there that a beautiful red cardinal likes to visit, and he’s there today looking quite picturesque on the snow-capped branches.
