was swapping cars at home just now. one of the neighbor kids was hanging out w my wife (wife tutors the kid). which means the kid (and siblings) has not returned to school yet.
Since RFK is trotting out the tired old âvideo games cause shootingsâ pitch again, time to bust out the chart.
Guns per capita for the same countries:
| Country | Guns Per 100 People |
|---|---|
| Japan | 0.3 |
| South Korea | 0.2 |
| United States | 120.5 |
| United Kingdom | 4.6 |
| Canada | 34.7 |
| Germany | 19.6 |
| France | 19.6 |
| Spain | 7.5 |
| Italy | 14.4 |
| China | 3.6 |
RFKâs response is that the majority of gun deaths in the US are suicides so somehow donât count. Note that that chart is violent gun deaths, meaning that suicides have already been taken out of the death count.
Itâs just insane how no one on the right is willing to recognize the simple concept that as gun onwerhip increases, all causes of gun related deaths go up. I wish I could find an updated version of the top chart with more recent data, but as guns are funneled disproportionately to red/rural areas where ownerships rates are high, they will almost certainly become more dangerous regarding gun homicides than urban areas. The next excuse will be âits just domestic violenceâ or some other dumb shit.
I think this is more ~2020 era data, but the article did not specifiy.
Itâs interesting to note that the dark red areas in the homicide map seem fairly highly correlated with areas where there is a long-term history of inequality / certain groups being disadvantaged and not perceiving opportunity.
Restricting access to guns would reduce the incidence of homicide and suicide, but that would to a decent extent only be treating the symptoms, rather than the actual problem.
Yes/noâŚbut I think those are the two key factors
- Prevalance of guns - this will exacerbate any problem, but on its own, is still a problem.
- Poverty - the point you hit on with ineqaulity. Yes, those areas have a lot of poor blacks that have been historically fucked over for most of US history, but the poor white entirety of appalacia and the surrounding areas is not great either. I think those deep red areas are just even poorer, likely due to that historical inequality.
But regardless of how precise we need to be with any of that, those are all Republican gun loving states that wonât attempt to address any of those problems. They are âjust one less ugly mouth on the welfareâ in the meantime, so keep tht bible close by to remind them who to vote for.
Note - that stripe in the middle of the ccountry in the Western plains is a checkerboard of red and white thats mostly binary on if a homicide was registered there - just not enough population to produce any shade of purple.
Didnât someone recently talk about euthanizing the homeless?
Fox News
Notice no mention of terrorism or flags at half mast about this?
Apparently this guy is full QAnon, and has filed lawsuits that the LGBTQ community is committing genocide on straight white men.
Thatâs a pretty bad day for America. Are we all winning yet?
Since the Michigan shooter was also a 40 year old former Marine, it took me a while to realize that these are two completely unrelated mass shootings on the same weekend.
So patriotic.
Edit: I actually replied to the wrong mass shooting by a 40-year-old Marine over the past weekend.
In an extraordinary display, the president seemed to excuse violence by. the right, saying that extremists on the right simply âdonât want to see crime.â
Marine shooters just donât want to see crime
I donât like the immediate jump to find out âwhose sideâ a murderer is on, but Iâm pretty sick of the âviolent leftâ rhetoric, too. Wonder what narrative the FBI will come out with on this one. Previous Trump fan corrupted and radicalized by the left?
Weâll get a clue when the FBI reveals what it wrote on the shooterâs bullets.
Karoline Leavitt is saying that the shooter just hated Christians, which given the usual attitudes I see from the right about Mormons is perhaps a step towards unity.
