Let me start with, I lived in MI in the late 80’s-early 90’s and never ran into blatant hate at that time. And this is a horrible thing to happen, especially when our church was in morning after the President of our church passed away Saturday night.
So we (Mormons) are Christians? Hurray.
Had a FB friend post about how Colorado fans were chanting the usual “F the Mormons” at the game Saturday night.
Maybe this is a problem? This is about the LDS church shooter.
When Burton City Council candidate Kris Johns heard that someone shot churchgoers and burned down the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sept. 28 in nearby Grand Blanc, he said not once did he think it was the man he spoke to while canvassing less than a week prior who went on a tirade against the church and described Mormons as “the antichrist.”
The man was outgoing, polite, and “extremely friendly,” Johns said. And his animosity toward the church didn’t seem violent, he said — “it was very much standard anti-LDS talking points that you would find on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook.” Bold added.
Recent posts seem to have excluded three more mass shootings in the US from this past weekend:
I keep thinking of our “adopted” kid, who grew up with active shooter drills in kindergarten. Mass shootings have always existed to some degree but I remember a time when I didn’t assume there will yet again be more school shootings than school days in the year.
Shooter was from Afghanistan so Trump attacks Somalis as well? From CNN:
“The president also took aim at Somali immigrants living in Minnesota, claiming they are “ripping off our country and ripping apart that once-great state,” casting Somalia as a country that has “no laws, no water, no military, no nothing.””
So, Trump sold them out the Taliban, blamed it all on Biden and is now screwing anyone that had the nerve to try to come here after we occupied the country for 20 years? Do I have that right?
Well, there apparently is a solution to gun violence per the GOP: Deport the Muslims. Doesn’t matter that the shop owner who stopped the shooting in Australia was Muslim, or that most shootings in the US are not done by Muslims.
A comparison to Australia is fascinating. By a twist of fate, I am in Melbourne for the holidays. The Aussie news is all about the shooting at Bondi Beach. The reaction among the political leadership is strikingly different here.
Both the Prime Minister and the National Cabinet ( sounds important, but I am clueless as to what that body truly is) quickly announced a comprehensive bill to address better monitoring of guns. The proposal given to the press talks about limiting gun ownership to Australian. Itizns, limiting the number nd types of gas, and tighter/shorter gun licensing.
Not so much praying.
They brought in gun ownership measures in 1996 after the Port Arthur incident and they have been the poster child for gun reform since then because of their low gun deaths. Their politicians had the courage to act in 1996 despite the unpopularity of their measures in many quarters and it appears they are acting again. Good for them. Hope it succeeds.
