Like politics, murder is local. Overall, yes. Maybe even in my state. But my central city is caught in a wave of retaliatory killings that risks us beating our 1933 absolute count record, as well as our homicides per capita record from 2022. Most of these are concentrated in impoverished neighborhoods, but they can spill over to commercial areas visited by many. That can really drive down the business done in those areas. Much like fears of a recession can drive a recession, fears of violence can do the same thing in a local area.
So UHC CEO was killed with a ghost gun that “can be printed in your own home”. It will be interesting to see if this has any impact on the US gun discussion or not. School shooting haven’t seemed to change anything. I wonder if a rich white dude being targeted will spark some discussion on gun limits? Probably not but curious anyway.
We are still in the thoughts and prayers stage, too early to discuss that.
The quickest way I can imagine to get hand guns banned is to see rich people getting targeted.
Yeah, I know, the 1st Amendment…yada, yada. We’ll see how long that lasts if martial law is proclaimed and the donor class needs a little help.
I have complete faith in SCOTUS to find something that happened during the Whiskey Rebellion that will justify temporary suspension in times of need.
Ironic in that rich people could becdeclared the enemy of the people, and that is why a militia is needed, and all that crap.
Lol, though, because I’ve not even heard much T&P in this case.
If Trump thinks he doesn’t like them he probably can get it over the line.
I don’t think his unusual choice of gun mattered much? Not sure. He might have avoided a background check? But he probably would have cleared it anyway.
It would have been untraceable, but he never ditched it. In fact it probably made it especially obvious that he was the guy.
Also, I foresee the excuse that 3d printing means it’s completely impossible to regulate guns and so why bother. “It’s hard so why bother” is already immensely popular, and it’s not even that hard.
Do synthetic drugs make it completely impossible to regulate drugs?
An unofficial report says 3 dead, including the shooter. Now updated to 4 dead.
Decided to delete this post from the General Health CEO thread. I found it kind of ironic that one CEO gets shot and New York is looking at a special CEO hotline. Meanwhile, another school shooting:
I’m not surprised cities want to spend money to protect business, since it equates to revenue. It’s just evidence that ultimately we’re not equal. Which is depressing.
The “ceo hotline” idea is just hilarious though. Wtf.
Gun abusers don’t care who’s in office, really.
Shooting at FSU yesterday with 2 dead.
CNN reports that the guy said some white supremacist like stuff and made people uncomfortable, according to a club president.
It includes a quote:
“These people are usually pretty entertaining, usually not for good reasons. I think it’s a little too late, he’s [Trump] already going to be inaugurated on Jan. 20 and there’s not really much you can do unless you outright revolt, and I don’t think anyone wants that,”
Fox News reports the same quote, but provides no additional context.
The quote seems easy enough to interpret as being anti-Trump.
Who is right?
You left out an important bit of context. Your CNN link says this quote was about anti-Trump protests. I think that’s pretty important to determine the tone of the quote.
Right, well, that was kind of my point - CNN added a bunch of details that made him sound like a white supremacist while Fox only gave the quote.
I missed the intention of your post then. Without context many quotes are ambiguous or misleading. I’m not sure a bunch of details are necessary here, but the background of the quote being in respect to anti-Trump protests is important.
