Gun Violence in America

Oh, yes, I remember that now. Mostly from conservative news complaining that nobody was talking about it (because trans people are evil, etc.), yet it’s the only standout detail of that shooting.

This is vile.

That is “The Dead Zone”- level of killing a campaign.

Can we just reboot the world? It’s broken beyond repair.

We tried to control. The alternative is to delete.

My bet is that he was going to fail him so he would not have progressed to the next stage of his Ph. D

I’m kind of surprised you don’t see this more often.

Imagine that . . . someone suffering a grazing wound from a firearm facilitated by a grazing wound as result of one’s diet/exercise regime.

Why can’t we make PhDs like actuarial exams, if you fail, just keep taking it until you pass.

the pressure on foreign students on a student visa can be enormous. if they are out of the program they have to leave.

Well his gamble paid off, he’ll get full tenure at NC Central.

I am familiar with some PH D programs, the candidates and the professors and the stress of dissertations, thesis and/or qualifying exams and not just for foreign students. Which is why I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often. Some of the candidates seem less than stable and some the professors seem a lot like dicks.

Its basically indentured servitude really.

You get a tiny stipend, have to teach some UGrad & Grad classes, while conducting your own dissertation research, and having to help the suoervisor with his own research (who never mentions you in his papers)

They really should pay them better + give some credit on papers.

Many years ago I was in a PhD program at a midwestern university. I thought it was less stressful than teaching high school.

BUT, the only thing I could see doing with a PhD in abstract algebra was college teaching. That would have been great, but I looked at the job prospects and said I’d have to be either a lot smarter (so I could get my degree from Princeton instead) or not so smart (so I couldn’t look ahead) to stay in the program. I bailed and started actuarial courses.
