GH-Specialty Fall 2021

I was surprised by the lack of calc questions… and the 2 they asked seemed like the same type of calc!

curious how you guys did the first one… I feel like they tried to mix it up by giving weird inputs.

I am curious myself on what I did. There was one choice/ assumption to make where I kept going back and forth, I don’t remember my final choice but I didn’t want to dwell on it/ overthink it. I remember my answer though! Once they release the exam I’ll be able to recreate what I did.

this is what I was getting at- Was very worried (and still am) that I just didnt look at the problem right.

do you feel comfortable talking specifics yet? that was very specific

day after right?

I don’t know! I hear in other fsa exams people got rescheduled for next day/ next 2 days when it wouldn’t load. I’d delete it…

It’s unlikely to matter but who knows.

removed it for now. agree or disagree with the method?

  • From the “ongoing exam” reddit thread. This is under FVA I think, definitely one of the health FSA exams. Which is huge and very difficult to navigate. Formatting is a mess, but this is evidence that rescheduling is a non zero possibility

whatever, its too ugly. anyway there’s evidence

Yeah Im just going to avoid talking about the exam until grades are out because

1.) I dont want any of yall to try to convince me that anything I did was wrong.

2.) I dont want SOA ninjas to kill me

That’s going a bit too far. I’d just wait a day then call it.

lol, I am trying to convince myself I did everything wrong. The head games are real.

Over the past 4 sittings (not counting fall 2021) math has averaged 11.6, with a standard deviation of 2.6. Min, max: 10,14

If you go further back and include exams down to Spring 2017, it averages 9.6 with a standard deviation of 3.2. Min, max: 2,14

[out of 40, so I expected approximately 25% math]

Grades will be coming out a week earlier than I was expecting.

Can we start talking about specifics yet? Really curious what other ppl thought about the first calculation problem (which agreed was similar to the second) and some of the ASOP stuff

eh, go for it. I’m not going to stop anyone anymore.

In the rare chance someone had to reschedule, let’s just assume they rescheduled for today and already took the exam or are on the way

So many ASOPs!!!

For the first calc problem, I called out that it wasn’t clear if the fee was per chronic member or per total member. I assumed for the fee that it was per total member, because then the ROI was close to the 150% quoted. Similar issue with the total cost - I assumed that was the total PMPM cost per chronic member. And I really hope that pre-tax hurdle rate = ROI

I think everyone made different assumptions for this question.

Did I miss a way to calculate a pre-tax hurdle rate? I kept going over formulas in my head, but I swear every example I’d worked through, the hurdle rate was just a given number.

The fee was one of the assumptions to be made, but it was kinda the least of my worries
