To be fair, there has been a pedophile speaker before (and not just a pedophile enabler but a full child abuser!) so there is precedent.

That [pedophile speaker] occurred before anyone realized he was a pedophile - but, you might say since then the GOP has grown more … they don’t support or condone pedophilia, they’re just more pedophile-friendly as part of broadening the party base as outlined in the party’s 2010 autopsy.
Feels like she’s loving the attention from this. To my view, she was a relative nobody, like George Santos less the crimes. She wore her “scarlet A” shirt into Congress like, “Hey guys, give a shit about me, lookit, I have an A, you see it, a shirt with an A! I’m Nancy Ma-”

Democrats are open to a compromise solution that does not involve Scalise.
Meanwhile, Jeffries said Democrats would remain “willing and able to find a bipartisan path forward,” urging House Republicans to break with hard-line conservatives and work with his party to elect a new speaker. However, the New York Democrat did not elaborate on what that path forward could look like.
“It means partnering to reopen the House so that we can get the business of the American people done and changing the rules that were enacted in January that empower their most extreme members,” Jeffries said.
I guess Republicans just need to be a little more boot strappy.

Democrats should reach out to the very few reasonable Republicans and ask them to switch parties with the offer of good committee spots and near-unlimited support in future elections.
They won’t, because these are the Democrats I’m talking about and they look for all kinds of unique ways to piss away leverage, but they should.
It might backfire, case in point is Arlene Spector from PA. In the wake of Obama winning PA handily he switched to the Dem party and promptly lost his 30 year hold on the seat in the Dem primaries.
So…are they going to go back to advancing the guy complicit in sexual abuse, now that the pro-white-supremacy dude is out?
I liked how MTG wouldn’t leave her phone at the door saying she wasn’t a 14 year-old. Recent history proves her wrong.

George Santos recently threw a social media rant that Scalise hadn’t contacted him in 10 months so he was voting for anybody but Scalise.
The silly man doesn’t realize none of this will matter when he’s in prison.
Given the slim margin, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s asking for a guarantee there isn’t an ethics investigation to get his vote.

Austin Scott is running against Jordan. He voted against the objections (i.e., for democracy) on 1/6, making him the only Republican candidate for Speaker so far to do so.
