Pot, Kettle.
Aw damn, calling McCarthy a squatter give that his state is squatter-plagued that’s next-level burnination
Here we go again, doesn’t look like much will change
At least one new defector from Jordan is publicly supporting McCarthy.
Personally, I hope we get at least 16 votes and end up with McCarthy again. I may laugh so much I cry a little.
Apparently Fox News was making fun of Jordan’s press conference this morning. He doesn’t know how to read the room.
Count of Republicans voting against Jordan:
- Vote 1: 20 no, 200 yes
- Vote 2: 22 no, 199 yes
- Vote 3: 25 no, 194 yes
I’m not an expert, but I don’t think that’s the trend he wants.
I do love that the wiki page has Jeffries leading
You’d think experiences with electing a Speaker this year would cause Republicans to embrace IRV.
Republicans held a secret ballot to decide whether or not to proceed with Jordan. He lost 112-86. So a break for the weekend, and on Monday they’ll pick their next victim.
SAD! WEAK! LOW ENERGY!
Candidates apparently include Jack Bergman and Kevin Hern. Hern was nominated by Boebert for speaker back in January. Both voted against certifying the 2020 election.
Can I put an emphatic
here? MAGA prick.
Likely Hern too but I don’t know him.
I guess we’re now at “House Republicans to Jordan: Drop Dead.”
Before too long, we may be at “House Republicans to House Republicans: Drop Dead.”
Steve Scalise would like you to stop looking at the speaker race and pay more attention to real news. Namely, in 2018, then President Vice-President candidate private citizen Biden’s brother repaid a loan that he owed Biden. The very same brother who texted Hunter Biden about getting financial help from Joe Biden, in a text that was so scandalous that Byron Donalds introduced a fabricated image of it in the impeachment inquiry. (The full text that was not allowed as evidence included context that made it clear that it was about alimony, not whatever the conspiracy theory of the day was.)
Tom Emmer, Republican whip, is apparently not going to become speaker.
Side note: shouldn’t solving rather than exacerbating the speaker issue be the priority for Republican Presidential candidates?
“Do it my way, or I’ll take my toys and go home” is one of the rules of Trumpocracy.
Republicans are having their internal vote for speaker nominee on Tuesday. It’s like they aren’t even trying. Although I guess there is no point in doing it sooner as no one is going to be able to win.
Rumored current candidates for Speaker on the Republican side:
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, Republican Conference Vice Chair Mike Johnson, RSC Chair Kevin Hern (Okla.), Reps. Byron Donalds (Fla.), Austin Scott (Ga.), Jack Bergman (Mich.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Gary Palmer (Ala.) and Dan Meuser (Pa.)
Of those, only Emmer and Scott voted to certify the 2020 election, the other 7 voted against. Emmer has said that the party should focus on issues and not Trump, so Trump and Bannon are making calls to oppose him.
It’d be nice if the Dems relaxed the goal of party unity and allowed at least some of their herd to vote for the least evil of the R’s.
Won’t the Dems eventually have to vote for a Republican to resolve this? Republicans alone will never get enough votes for any candidate. They are too fractured.
