Many of those criteria he used are likely based on military criteria and having a generally illiterate population (common in the 18th and 19th centuries).
I think that’s his main problem with them. If your flag can’t be distinguished without printing your name on it, maybe consider a redesign.
If it can be, then the name on it is redundant and useless.
Also, when the wind isn’t blowing, you won’t be able to see any words on the flag.
The thing with the North Star on Alaska’s flag was an interesting observation.
TIL about the republic of California. I’d seen it on the flag but assumed it was more of a thing, it lasted 25 days and they put it on the flag?
It looks too busy in person, IMO. But it does satisfy the criteria of the video.
Citizens in Utah tried to do a referendum on the new flag law to get it on the ballot for everyone to vote on. They failed to get the required number of signatures only getting around 50K out of the 134K they needed.
