Facebook observations

And in terms of how much I trust them:

Apple >> Google >> Facebook

Apple claims to care about privacy, and has a history of protecting its customer’s privacy. Apple is in the business of selling hardware and software, not data.

Google is in the business of selling data, and has dropped “don’t be evil”, probably because they found it restrictive. But Google cares about it’s reputation, and understands that there are limits to what consumers and regulators will tolerate. Google as a corporation is very aware of those limits. It’s also pretty good about building firewalls so, for instance, a random Google employee doesn’t know where you just drove. I have a number of friends who work for Google, and have decent insight into the corporate culture.

Facebook is run by people with a “what, me worry?” attitude, and has zero interest in respecting any boundaries unless there’s an obvious profit in doing so.

I’m guessing that Amazon falls between Google and Facebook, but I don’t know as much about it.

Just got a message from the fb gods as to how things are moderated. It is not a human doing it at all. It is a machine. Well that’s just great. Of course they are going to get it wrong.

Or you could just ignore them.

now that I know that facebook has upped their rules on civility, some chick made a rude comment towards me that I wouldn’t have previously even considered reporting because I didn’t think anything would come of it. This time, reported it. Apparently it was deleted right away, she got pissed, sent me an angry message in messenger, so I reported that too. So, if I wind up dead, it’s some fake blonde angry looking chick on fb who is the murderer.

I stayed civil this time and ignored her other than reporting it.

lol she called me “morticia” in the messenger message. is that an insult? i like to think of myself as more of a wednesday addams, but morticia will do!

Morticia was hot in a Goth sort of way.

oh! do you think fb bitch was hitting on me? :astonished:

for completeness, the message was - " Oh, you wanna report me? Lol. Are you always such an insufferable little tw*t?:joy: :joy: Morticia."

she kinda seems like the fake blonde, right winged, covid-denying version of me. she even has a maltese.

so she’s not all bad

I do not.

it was a joke…

You never know. Those conservatives often harbor latent feelings…

Somehow, if the murder of ao_fan made it to a TV show, I think it would take a couple of seasons to run thru the FB suspect list.

I’m sorry ao_fan, but this made me

An ad popped up for a company that sells garb and accessories for lawyers (think like the British style with the black robes and white “ascot” or whatever the **** they call it). Male and female lawyer pass each other on the staircase, smoky glances are exchanged, she changes out of her lawyer garb slowly and seductively in the locker room. I thought it was gonna turn into a soft pr0n there for a minute…

Some dude commented that he didn’t know what the ad was for, but liked the music and the scenery!!!

Now to speculate what triggered the algorithm to recommend this ad for you

Yeah. Breadmaker, what is in your search history? Specifically, so that I never google it myself. Be as specific as possible.

It sure ain’t “hawt Quebecois lawyers”!!!

I HAVE A NEW HOBBY!

argue with people who say dumb shit, while making super sure I stay within the rules, and get them to go outside the rules and BAM! report them.

just caught my first one. that guy was an asshole.

this plan is sure to fail, and i’m sure to say something outside the rules and get myself banned in the process. so i might need to find a new hobby.

Doesn’t sound like a good hobby, baiting people.
