Do you own a dvd player?

OK, so you seem to be in the extreme minority.

I mean, what do you expect people to do, throw away a perfectly cromulent piece of technology, AND all of their entertainment product?? Just because you have some unusual view of the world?

Well, it’s either that, or everyone here is as old as dirt, clinging to 20yo technology?

I wouldn’t say anyone is “clinging” to it. Ours is in the entertainment console, not being used. And the DVDs are in a box (two boxes?) in the garage.
Now, if someone were to go out and buy one now, yes, that would be unusual. But, it still works, and no one knows you’re watching your porn stash, unlike streaming.

‘Twas quite bangin’ in 1989. Tape automatically came out and reversed itself. My buddy ordered one and they shipped him two. Held on to it for a couple months to see if stereo store was going to bill him, but they never did. So he gave it to me.

Oh, I bet if Mom tried to throw it out you’d find that it’s a pretty good description.

YOU KIDS STAY OFF MY LAWN, DAGNABIT!!!

Years ago, Sony Hi-Fi Beta tapes had much better audio quality than cassette tapes. So we made mix-tapes from CDs to the Beta tapes. I probably still have one or two lying around somewhere.

They sounded great through the Yamaha amp/preamp and Klipsch speakers.

It’s other people in my house that have binders full of DVDs. But my people do tend to watch the same movies over and over, and some, like Harry Potter, aren’t readily available for streaming.

They’re on HBO Max.
And, every other weekend or so they’re on one of several cable networks, whichever ones happen to have them. Lately, they’ve been on SyFy and E!. Record, skip the commercials, and voila.

Record? How do you record? What do you record to?

Seems easier just to keep the old dvd’s…

I think I still have my TI-81 somewhere… I should look for that!

I mean, i am old as diet, but my DVD player also plays blueray, and i sometimes borrow a movie from the library.

We have a TiVo. Still works, and works great. I don’t think I’ve seen a commercial on my TV in 10 years.
So, if I wanted to watch a Harry Potter movie I could burrow into my boxes of DVDs and pull it out, or have my TiVo record the next time it’s on (I can put it on a “list” and it will record it, even if it’s not currently on the TV schedule.

I wouldn’t be in any hurry to watch it, though. I have the books, after all.

I mean, the girl who watches these knows exactly where they are.

Well, that helps.

She know where the books are?

Well there’s likely another difference. We ditched cable forever ago, and I don’t really watch TV. I stream movies whenever I want a break and I read the news online.

I mean really, 90 day fiance, dr pimple popper etc. My IQ is low enough already, I’m not going to feed it with stuff that’ll bring it down further.

It’s OK to be different, bro.

That one’s pretty formulaic, but sometimes pretty interesting. I had no idea all the kinds of weird disfiguring skin conditions there are out there. The name of the show is quite the misnomer… hardly any of those conditions are related to acne.

It’s hardly must-see TV, but it’s interesting to see these conditions, how the doctor treats them, and how people’s lives change afterwards. :woman_shrugging:

It’s hardly in the same category as 90 Day Fiancé at any rate.

Story of my life, man. Story of my life.

Books, audiobooks (at least those are digital), DVDs…
