I just found out that my insurance will pay for home tests. If I get this right, we are eligible for 8 tests per insured individual per month. A quick search showed this:
https://www.hhs.gov/about/news/2022/01/10/biden-harris-administration-requires-insurance-companies-group-health-plans-to-cover-cost-at-home-covid-19-tests-increasing-access-free-tests.html
and this:

Target had a bunch of EUA-authorized but not FDA-approved rapid tests at $5 apiece. I don’t need them for anything “official”, so I bought 8 tests.
So it’s not reimbursable by my health insurance, but I’m still having a hard time finding the Binax Now tests in stores, so it works.
Currently in stock at WM and Walgreen’s and you can probably get 1-2 day shipping, if that helps.
My tests from Biden arrived last night.
A friend got hers yesterday, too. I wonder if they’ve just stated arriving.
We got ours earlier this week.
My coworker who lives in the sticks got hers a couple days ago. I expect I’ll get mine soon.
And it turns out that once we get them, they may not be as reliable, from spending multiple days in freezing weather.
COVID home tests are free here for seniors and distributed at pharmacies. My SIL, wife and granddaughter have all tested positive in the last few days and I have similar symptoms to theirs (fever, cough, etc.) However no matter which home kit I use I only get negative results. I must have COVID so am puzzled. We all live in the same house BTW.
Gotta stick that thing WAAAY up your nose!!
Current recommendation is to test 48 hours after the first negative test, then if still negative, another 48 hours after that. Or go get a PCR if that’s available.
My daughter is a nurse and on the second test she stuck it a whole lot further up my nose than I did on my attempt the day before.
Thanks. Will test again tomorrow and skip testing today.
Good/.
Must be those awesome vaccines you had! Or, that it is really hard to get COVID from people you love. Or something. Love conquers all, eh?
I had COVID two years ago, and the other three people who lived in our house didn’t get it.
Success! Got a positive COVID test this morning. Would have been peeved to have found that the misery of the last few days was a different virus and that I would probably catch COVID soon as well.
Um, congratulations??
We knew you could do it! Now get better!
Totally appropriate. That was my kids’ reactions.
At my age, I have to take my “successes” where I can!
Thanks. My high fever broke last night and I feel much better today. Can’t go back to the gym yet as I am still infectious but will walk, and then bike, outside for a few days until I am 100% again.
My wife had a milder version so that was good.
I’m assuming Canada’s program of putting you up in a hotel for a week expired a while ago?
