My binax now arrival date was revised from 1/11 to 1/15. Shipped via fedex.
I have come to the conclusion that prevention of spread can not be effectively controlled on the infected side. We had all these good theories about how to identify and segregate infected individuals from society or wrap them in masks to prevent them from spreading, but it didnt work. We cannot effectively apply the concepts at the population level.
I have instead adopted the opposite strategy- prevention of spread can only be achieved through the segregation of the healthy from society. If you are not sick, its really a difficult induvial exercise to remain that way by avoiding contact with the virus and pump yourself with vaccines. You cannot rely on others to protect you. you cannot rely on the vaccine status of others to protect you. You cannot rely on others masks to protect you. You cannot rely on testing of others to protect you.
So you think ‘but if I self test and ID myself as infected I can stop the spread!’. Great thinking, but since only 1/10 people with the virus (making up numbers) actually do this, your valiant effort is in vain. So along with masks, Ill mark this as another effort that has some >0 impact on spread, but not really making a dent at the population level. In all, I dont think testing has been a great deterrent to spread in any capacity since the start of the pandemic. Many people test positive, but only after walking around for 4 days spreading before they stop. Some people test positive and just keep doing everything anyway. In a way, doing the right thing during the pandemic has been more of a punishment.
only a small portion of healthy people are staying home just like a small portion of infected people are. i’m not seeing a big difference here.
now it says 1/13.
website shows them in stock again whatever that means in terms of when you’ll get it.
The sequence seems to be converging.
hmmmm, seems the tests available at walmart was a teaser and when you go to check out, not actually there.
its not JUST staying home. Its your daily habits. its about the exposures you accept when you go places. Its about how you interact with people.
Its like driving. I spend a lot of time watching other cars, because I dont trust them not to hit me. Same with coivd- I watch others a lot thinking about my risk being next to them. if I can smell some one’s breath, i am literally taking 3 step back before I take my next.
yes, i get that, but not sure why overall you’re thinking that people who haven’t had covid yet are more likely to be careful than people who get it. some will, some won’t.
The ones I ordered Thurs are now showing they’re coming this Weds, and the ones ordered Friday are scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Wait and see what actually happens.
An independent group did a ranking of home COVID tests based solely on ease of use. They agree with you.
Apologies if this has been posted. The Biden administration is requiring insurance companies to cover the cost of at-home covid tests, details here:
Well the good news is that it won’t cost insurers anything, since no one can buy the at-home tests anyway!
I’m going to buy as many as possible, bill it to my insurance, and scalp them on eBay.
Obviously not serious, but as I type it out, someone will probably do it.
Kind of irritated that this goes into effect after I bought a couple hundred dollars worth.
Similarly, relieved this goes into effect after I haven’t been able to find any tests for weeks.
Although I have a suspicion this will only make tests even harder to find.
I haven’t actually received the tests yet tho.
You need to pay to view USA Today, now?!
Anyway, I just cracked open my iHealth kits today, and they are a lot fussier to use than BinaxNow. If they remain cheaper, I might stick with them anyway. The bother of using them isn’t close to the bother of trying to get my health insurance to reimburse me.
Weird, as I got served that story by yahoo news and I could read it when I copied the link.
Here’s some of the same content from another source:
Interesting. I guess I have good fine motor control. I find the BinaxNow very easy. I also like that there’s a big piece of cardboard you can write on, so if you are running a bunch of tests at the same time it’s easy to mark whose is whose.
