A little more than 20 hours after our second dose of Pfizer, and no significant side effects yet for either my wife or myself. One of the local vaccination clinics claimed only around 20% of people experienced side effects significant enough to keep them out of work/school, though the anecdotal evidence seems higher. Here’s hoping we continue to dodge that bullet…
I guess I got the Lucy side effect plan, where just my muscles went whack for a bit. It was like all the regular sore spots were amplified and the rest were sore too. I went to stretch out on the couch for a bit in the middle of the ordeal and my cat decided to put her love claws into my wrist muscle for a second - IT HURT SO BAD.
Despite how suddenly bad it felt, two Ibuprofens later I felt good enough to go back up to bed, and this morning I feel good. My sore injection site is even way better.
13 hours after my pfirst pfizer shot and I feel totally fine. I slept great. There is some soreness at the injection site if I lift my arm over my head, so I guess I’ll take a break from lifting my arm over my head for a day or two.
Actually, I was checking for soreness specifically so I could post about it here. Lifting my arm, pressing on the injection site with my fingers, etc. Now I have mild soreness all the time. Lesson learned.
Day 3, status unchanged. I was a little low energy yesterday and felt some chills at one point, but did not have a fever.
I hope all those vaccines that babies get feel more like flu shots than COVID ones.
The DPT is a lot more like covid. We made the mistake of taking our first child for her 1 year pediatrician appointment shortly before her first birthday party. Her whole leg turned red and swelled up, like a giant bee sting, and she was cranky and obviously unhappy for the rest of the day.
I understand they’ve reformulated that jab, and the new one isn’t as nasty as the one she had. But WOW, that was horrible. And we made sure the second child’s 1 year appointment wasn’t right before his birthday party.
(Another attendee at that party was my great aunt, who had not yet been diagnosed, but was dying of lung cancer, and was pretty uncomfortable. That was far and away the worst party I’ve ever thrown.)
Our kids would tend to spike a fever for a day or so after the shots, so we learned after having a kid get sent home for daycare once or twice due to the fever to always schedule vaccinations on Fridays.
Don’t worry about it, babies don’t feel pain, and kids are resilient. ![]()
I really thought a mid-day power nap was going to make me feel less tired and not more.
Side effects of this vaccine giving me more mixed messages than a new boyfriend.
guys, did i mention I had NO SIDE EFFECTS OTHER THAN A SORE ARM WITH J&J? well, i did, but mentioning it again.
wtf with it being taken off the market due to a handful of silly blood clots.
The EU has already reauthorized it, with a new warning label. I expect the US to do the same on Friday, possibly with a restriction saying it shouldn’t be used for some class of people (e.g., young women)
i’m old as dirt, but I am within the age range of people who had the scary blood clot. I’m not sure they really should tell all women between the ages of 18 - 48 to avoid J&J due to all of SIX women getting a blood clot. I was fine and that’s a lot of people avoiding it for so few having an issue.
And my mother had no side effects from Pfizer. She barely had a sore arm. And I talked to some guy on the internet who had no effects at all from Moderna – he didn’t even notice the needle, nor was his arm sore.
Yeah the only reason my arm is sore after Pfizer #1 is because I can’t stop poking it with my fingers. It’s the only proof I have that I actually got the shot, because I did not watch the pharmacist administer the shot and I didn’t feel it.
But; it’s been long enough that I can confidently say I didn’t have a prior infection.
Does anyone know who’s keeping track of which of y’all got just the saline injections in this phase of the trials?
That was the prior phase. Now they are just looking for the rare side effects and the long term efficacy.
I was planning to get the shingles shot this year. I’ve had shingles already. But ugh, I don’t want to take off even more time from work due to shots! Maybe next year.
Well, I spoke too soon. A few hours into the day (about 24 hours after my second shot) I came down with a slight fever (101F) and general shoulder and back aches – more or less like a minor brush with flu. I think the fever’s come down a little by now, though my back is still aching (I need a better work chair). Not great, but not the end of the world so far.
Seems like my wife’s just fine and dandy though.
