Covid 19 Vaccine Side Effects Thread

Even though some of us have had some unpleasant side-effects…they aren’t THAT bad in the grand scheme of things, especially given what a moderate case of COVID can be like, and given that a return to some degree of normality is predicated on getting enough folks vaccinated.

But I do think that planning to be non-productive in the window starting 12 hours and ending 36 or 48 hours after the doses is a wise decision. If your schedule means that you have to do it on one of a particular few days of the week to achieve that, then go for it if you can manage without an otherwise material delay. My wife got her first dose two days later than she could have, because of thinking along those lines.

I had nothing, maybe a stress headache
my wife slight chills and fever, knocked out by advil, felt fine quickly

I planned to be non-productive for 3 days, and that was ridiculously more than I needed. In fact, despite being achey, I was pretty productive the day after the shot, and finally finished a project I’ve been working on on-and-off since 2016. It’s a project that involved sitting at my computer, and obviously, there was no huge pressure to work on it if I didn’t feel up to it. But I did, and having cleared the time, I got a ton done.

Same for me. I have at most light spotting and mild cramps most months, and there was no difference this month.

I had a sore arm.
But that is no different than any other shot for me (flu shot)

I can handle a sore arm. Funny story. Last week, I tripped and fell hard upper arm first into the corner of a piece of furniture. I got a nasty cut and a huge bruise almost the size of my entire upper arm. The soreness from that will probably be worse than the soreness from my first fauci ouchie. If my J&J appt hadn’t been canceled l, I was going to show people my arm and say “is this normal after the shot?” as a joke but the bruise has mostly gone away by now. But still, I’m going to request they poke me in the opposite arm.

Wife got her second dose of Moderna on Saturday. She got really tired and slept a lot, and she says the soreness is worse than the average flu shot, but she’s bounced back. So we’re both fully vaccinated, I’m 9 days out from my second shot so should be very nearly as protected as I’m gonna get.

fwiw, I’ve never felt significantly sore from a flu shot.

Now a tetanus shot… actually, that hits me about the same as this second covid shot did, now that I think of it. Muscle and joint aches all over and tiredness. I also feel out-of-it after a tetanus shot, more than I did from the covid shot.

really not looking forward to the shingles shot. I suppose my doctor will want me to do that when I turn 60. (yes, I know it’s approve and usually recommended above 50. Medical history, etc. He suggested 60 for me.)

She normally just get mild pain (maybe 2/10) from the flu, she didn’t quantify it but said shoulder pain woke her up once so it was fairly severe.

I probably just got 2/10 pain from both covid shots. In 2019, I got the flu shot, hep A, typhoid, and DPT all at once, and that did produce some pain but I’ve no idea which shot caused it.

Upper arm is very sore today. Woke me up a couple times when I rolled onto that side in the night. Had some arm soreness day 2 post shot last time, but this is much worse. No other side effects yet.

Nuvaring. I control the timing now!

I’ve now been on prednisone so long I’m not sure I can tell the difference between what’s causing what. Massive headaches this morning.

Have some redness and swelling near the injection site.

My wife got Moderna #2 on Saturday. Last night, she was feeling fine, but the injection site was still red, and it was pretty warm to the touch. Weird, but she seems fine now.

Hour 9 post shot, arm hurts. I’m tired, but that’s a preexisting condition.

It’s now a large hard knot in that arm that is hot to the touch. Still red and swollen

My grandmother had a similar experience (moderna). It was hot to the touch for a few days for her and she couldn’t really put pressure on it. Her arm didn’t fall off, spoiler alert. Hope you’re feeling better soon.

Hour 15 post shot, https://youtu.be/iDBP0DqQuss

Woke up after about 1.5 hours of sleep to a sore everything. I’m a little nauseous because of the pain.

I’m certain it’s called the spike protein because I can now imagine what it feels like to have every muscle in my body bludgeoned from the inside by a mace.

I came down with a nasty fever and lost 4 pounds in 2 days (consistently down days later) and took some surprise 4-5 hours naps. I feel like next time working out, I’ll feel weaker. Still worth it.
