Covid 19 Vaccine Side Effects Thread

At least in my case, I watched him unwrap the syringe, it came pre-filled from the factory in a little plastic thing that he peeled apart to open.

I look away as soon as I see anything that resembles a needle. It’s the gauge more than length to worry about, but I don’t know the color codes and I’m certainly not looking come time that the plastic cover thingy is off to see how fat or skinny the needle is.

I donate blood regularly so I’m not a complete baby but I don’t even look when they do the finger prick during screening.

I hate the finger prick, I’d rather they stick it in my arm!

Yeah that part hurts the most.

Err, all the vaccines authorized for use in the US come from the factory frozen into multi-use vials. (Or chilled, for j&j).

It’s a little fussy to prepare them for use. The Moderna vaccine needs to be gently defrosted and then gently swirled but not shaken, prior to loading the syringes. And once the vial has been used once, the rest needs to be used in a few hours. The Pfizer vaccine is even fussier, needing to be diluted in saline without being overly agitated.

So wherever you got the shot may have depended on another party to prepare the syringes (perhaps a local hospital, or just another room in a large site) but it wasn’t a ā€œfactoryā€.

Yeah, lotta nerves in the finger tips.

I like to watch the needle go into my arm. Makes me feel powerful for some reason.

Interesting. Yeah, I watched him peel the syringe open, but perhaps some local facility is doing that. I even remarked about the pre-filled syringe and he said that’s how he gets them.

Funny (terrifying???) story about needles

I had to get a cortisone shot a few years ago. The nurse brings the needle and into the room, sets it on the desk right next to me, and says that the doctor has to administer it and he’ll be back ā€œin a bitā€. So I got the pleasure of sitting in the exam room for what seemed like 10 minutes with this huge ass needle 1 foot from me. That gave me a bit of anxiety…

Just got 2nd dose.

WOW I am dead. 103 fever, chills, headache, fatigue. This is brutal. Symptoms started about 12 hours after injection.

After first dose my arm was sore, that’s all. 2nd dose my arm is not as sore but everything else is awful.

Moderna?

Sounds bad. Let us know when you’re back to normal. I need to see how far I need to push my sushi reservation.

yes moderna. Was like 95% sure I never got COVID and having a worse reaction to dose 2 makes sense.

I thought dose 1 was pretty bad :frowning:

Hope you feel better soon.

I’m at 19 hours out from second Pfizer shot and still just have a really sore arm. I took Tylenol a few hours ago because my first shot gave me such a killer headache that I wanted to stave that off if possible. Seems to be working, but I’m going to take ibuprofen in another hour to tide me over until bedtime.

I’m 28 hours or from my second dose of Pfizer, and my arm is sore, especially if I try to lift it. Other than that it’s not too bad. I think all my aches and pains have been exacerbated a bit, and i felt tired today. Maybe a hint of a headache. I decided to take the day off in advance, but if I’d had to work i think i would have been okay.

I honestly was not expecting to get sick. I’ve been mostly thinking ā€œpeople overreact to their side effects for the attentionā€ but I’ve had it pretty bad. My headache is mostly gone now which was the worst part. Still pretty meh.

Timeline: 4pm shot. 3am wakeup feeling achy. 4am serious chills and fever of 103. made it through a couple work meetings but have been out of commission. 6pm was the first i’ve started to really feel better.

Hmm, where I went I watched the tech fill the syringe from the multi-dose vial both times.

Same place both times, so not surprising their methodology was identical both times.

I was the opposite. I totally expected to be miserable and I was basically fine.

Moderate injection site soreness the first time. Extremely mild injection site soreness the second time.

I’m normally the person who watches someone sneeze on TV and somehow manage to get sick from it.

A very pleasant surprise!
