Attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband

anyone who wants power. which is a lot of people.

why would anyone wanna be president when it’s the most deadly job (from assassination attempts)

seems that the president and his family is better protected than the speaker of the house is.

yeah, a lot more people want the president dead though. Historically speaking, they’re also a lot more successful at it.

uh, okay, but this recent attack wasn’t on the president. it was on the speaker of the house’s husband and i don’t know of any recent successful attacks on the president or his family.

so, you think status quo and don’t protect the speaker of the house’s spouse and home? no big deal.

I’ve asked this question before already, I think they’re all quite under protected. Frankly I think the SC justices have a lot more power than 1/435 of the house.

whether or not nancy pelosi has a power, she was the speaker of the house and had a ton of haters as a result in this extremely contentious political environment. the speaker of the house needs protection. she wasn’t just an ordinary forgettable house member.

obviously this attack scared nancy pelosi into stepping down. so, there is a real problem here if they don’t choose to protect a person in this position adequately. if you want qualified people to take this job, they need to be protected.

while sure it contributed, it isn’t a direct line. dems losing the house is big. her being old contributes. the assault certainly is in there. not sure I would list her as scared unless she said as much.

yeah, getting your head beaten in by a hammer by a crazy person breaking into your home isn’t scary at all. sorry, my bad.

This was expected well before the attack on her husband.

call me crazy, but i really enjoy assuming that i can walk into my own home without getting beat in the head by a crazy person carrying a hammer.

maybe or maybe not, but this made it 100% going to happen.

She does have protection. It’s just her family doesn’t get quite the same level of protection the President’s family does when she’s not physically around. Her security detail was with her in Washington which didn’t help her husband in San Francisco.

i know. i said that. her home and husband need protection.

She’s 82 and her party just lost control of the House. It’s the perfect time to step away from leadership and pass the reigns to someone hopefully much younger to lead the party into 2024 and beyond with or without the attack on her husband.

That said the attack probably had something to do with her decision.

the article flat out says that she insinuated that the attack was the main reason she stepped down, so there’s also that.

Totally agree.

Who is expected to succeed her? That person will need very strong security if it is one of the Dems that Fox News demonizes.

uh, that was my point. they need to increase the level of protection to the person who succeeds her, and you all went off to argue with me for i have no idea what reason.

She also said this in the past…

Mrs. Pelosi, 82 years old, had pledged when Democrats last took the majority, in 2019, to serve just two more terms as speaker, which ends with this Congress. Also in question are the futures of her two top deputies, Reps. Steny Hoyer, 83, of Maryland and Jim Clyburn, 82, of South Carolina.

So unless she had a change of heart (not unheard of for a politician) she was stepping down anyway.

I think she was a very effective leader for a long time, I’m also glad she’s stepping down as I don’t think we need folks over 80 leading the party. I mean the President is already there. I hope it isn’t Hoyer or Clyburn who take over as minority leader.

We need to make Congress wear masks.

That’s how superheroes protect their families.
