Attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband

yeah, but even if she had not said that, i think this attack would have resulted in her stepping down.

Pelosi’s successor

The race to succeed Pelosi, as Democrats settle back into the minority after modest losses in this month’s midterm elections, is expected to feature a series of next-generation candidates. Hakeem Jeffries of New York, 52, the Democratic Caucus chairman, has been considered Pelosi’s heir apparent, and he would become the highest-ranking Black lawmaker in history if he were to win.

Pelosi has not indicated who she would like to see replace her as leader, but Hoyer and Clyburn both endorsed Jeffries on Thursday. Hoyer called the Brooklyn Democrat “a skilled and capable leader who will help us win back the Majority in 2024” and noted “he will make history for the institution of the House and for our country” if elected leader. Clyburn also endorsed Reps. Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and Pete Aguilar, D-Calif., for the No. 2 and No. 3 leadership spots, respectively.

Looks like Hakeem Jeffries is odds on favorite.

Very loosely inspired, perhaps. Material differences but I don’t want to derail the thread. My point was simply that if all parties agree then things can work differently from the standard operating procedure when they don’t. So an exception where all parties agreed isn’t really a counter example to the normal procedure.

i’m not sure about this.

in addition to what others have said, i remember when she got speakership again under trump, there were challenges to her leadership. the argument was that fresh blood was needed. she promised to step down soon.

i also wonder if her husband might need help with rehab, and she wants to be there for him. that isn’t the same thing as fear.

I was on the, “JFC no more old people!” train back on the AO but I want to say that I think Biden, Pelosi, and Clyburn have done an incredible job during a very difficult period in history. And that young buck Schumer (72) too. Especially if this kind of gay marriage bill gets over the finish line.

I’m ecstatic with how Dems did in the mid terms so I feel like we’ve got a deeper bench of younger people than we did 2 years ago.

I think pelosi is incredibly effective. from that perspective it’s pretty remarkable that we have had mcconnell and her at the same time.

my understanding is that obamacare only passed the house because of her. she had to convince many members to effectively vote themselves out of office for it. agree or disagree politically, that is very effective and consequential.

arguably obamacare and overturning roe have been the two most far reaching changes over the last 10 years and pelosi and mcconnell made both happen.

What do you think? Will this increase or decrease the number of conspiracy theories floating
around concerning this violent attack?

From what I can tell, literally nothing reduces conspiracy theories floating around your side. They only seem to increase with time.

If conspiracy theorists could be convinced by evidence they wouldn’t be conspiracy theorists.

Paul Pelosi is holding a drink in his left hand???

I hadn’t heard that before I saw the video. And who opened the door?

If Paul has a drink in one hand and his other hand on the hammer - who opened the door? Some type of automatic door opener - but who/when activated that door?

Who opened the door for the attacker? The attacker forced his way in. Who opened the door for the police? I’m not sure that’s been published.

Who cares? If an intruder breaks into your home to try and kidnap your wife but settles for you because she’s not home I would hope you don’t face this level of stupid conspiracy theories.

Sometimes the simplest (well, shortest) answer, “aliens,” is right there in front of your face.
