As usual, the facts seem to contradict the rhetoric.
"The U.S. crackdown on drug trafficking at the border with Mexico has triggered an increase in criminal activity coming across the border from Canada, according to Markwayne Mullin, the U.S. secretary of homeland security.
"Speaking to an audience in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday alongside Gary Anandasangaree, Canada’s minister of public safety, Mullin said law enforcement officials are seeing an increase in fentanyl trafficking from Canada, something he attributed to U.S. efforts against Mexican cartels at the southern border.
“The biggest concern we see is what’s happening on our southern border being pushed up to our northern border because of the pressure we’re putting on the cartels,” Mullin told a conference at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think-tank.
It’s unclear what evidence Mullin has for his claim of “lots more” drug trafficking coming from Canada.
U.S. officials have seized just six pounds (2.7 kilograms) of fentanyl along the northern border over the first seven months of the current fiscal year, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection statistics. That contrasts with 77 pounds (35 kilograms) of fentanyl seized during the entire 2025 fiscal year."

That rhetoric assumes that Mexico is the only source of the drug. What I see being the case is that closing one of the loopholes for imports has resulted in a need for China to send their “packages” to the US on another path and are finding Canada providing an avenue.
But I don’t think that narrative makes the administration appear “strong”, though.
Seizures at the norther border are in the single digits per month, occasionally hitting 10 or so. They have been declining for a couple years now. Seems like there is just one or two large events in the 2025 number.
I was hoping the Iranian team would get to the knockout round given all the obstacles they faced. Homeland Security Secretary had a different take.

Doug Burgum using the original contractor to repair the “vandalism” because they did such a fine job.
NEW YORK (AP) — The Trump administration will not seek new bids to repair the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, Interior Secretary Doug Burgumsaid Sunday as he faced new questions about the troubled project and the taxpayer money involved.
Like President Donald Trump, Burgum said he was 100% sure that vandals caused the damage to the century-old Reflecting Pool on the National Mall. Trump has charged that a 350-foot gash was cut into the pool’s liner in the midst of recent renovations, while Burgum described it as multiple cuts adding up to that figure. He also said the pool would have to be at least partially drained in the coming week to finish the repairs.
The repairs will not be opened up to new contractors, he said.
“We’ll use the same company, because they did a fantastic job,” Burgum told CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Thankfully, the vandalism was small. It was bad. I mean, it could cost tens of thousands of dollars to repair, so then it could fall into a felony … just like damaging any other government property could. But the job that was done to fix the Reflecting Pool was done extremely well.”

That particular bill was introduced on 1/28/2025. Fortunately, it doesn’t have any cosponsors.
Unfortunately, there is still plenty of time for that to change.
