Actuarial spouses survey

I think my spouse only knows about being married to me, and he probably doesn’t think of me as an actuary so much as his spouse. Also I was his spouse before I became an actuary.

Clearly you’re new here.

I avoid reddit but curious what response he’d get.

Wait, the entire forum gets to post in the insignificant signals thread?

Sorry I was out all morning and missed your comments. The article is real and will be published in the actuary. Those worried about confidentiality should note that my very first post provided an email to ensure privacy.

As far as whether I want comments from spouses of students or credentialed actuaries, it shouldn’t matter. I am not looking for comments like they studied all the time. More like when they planned a vacation for the family they included Euler’s grave on the itinerary.

Again the email is Nathanjanblock@gmail.com if anyone wishes to help.

When I got my first digital watch as a kid (in the early 80s), I used to make a special effort to look at my watch exactly as it hit 11:11:11. That would give me a secret thrill.

And to help you set appropriate expectations, that is where I would look for a serious response to your request.

As I mentioned above, this is a very small industry and even innocuous details can out an ID.

While I’m not officially out, on the AO I had 3 coworkers recognize me just from my posts (at least 3 that told me, potentially others that never mentioned it), and I recognized a couple of my coworkers just from stories they shared.

To a post about actuarial spouses? Might be at the bottom of the barrel on reddit

This was pre-actuarial but years ago I visited Versailles and remember walking down halls of busts of various people none of whom I knew until I saw a bust of L’Hopital which I was excited about

Q: was the top of the sculpture as derivative as the bottom of the sculpture?

Bernoulli begs to differ.

What was that rule? Why do I remember the name and not the rule?

The rule was that if the limit of a ratio was such that the numerator was differentiable and had a limit to zero (or infinity) and the denominator was differentiable and had a limit that matched the numerator, then you could (recursively) take the derivative of the numerator and denominator and then check for the limit of that ratio.

IIRC

Yeah, I don’t remember that at all. Some day I’m gonna learn math again.

I just remember being in calculus class and you get to a problem where it’s like …aaand now I’m stuck (inf / inf iirc). And then L’Hopital is all like no sir! Just pretend like this and voila, it’s easy, and then I give him a high five.

FWIW - this request is probably all on the up-and-up, but it has a bit of a “Hello, I’m a Nigerian prince…” vibe to it. This is not the sort of request I would ever respond to coming out of the blue on the internet. If you had some history posting here, then maybe.

Also - I haven’t worked in the industry for several years, and my spouse would not be interested in being interviewed, so…
