Actuarial spouses survey

A Concentration of Actuaries

I started to suggest get too many actuaires together and you might have a conflagration. I knew the main definition, but decided to google and found this answer ridiculous yet perhaps somewhat relevant.

conflagration means :
merriment
inferno
profit
horse

Guys we get the magazine every month.

We are clearly a Contingency of actuaries.

A complement of actuaries.

We might need to get 20 or 30 options and take a vote on this. Perhaps everyone gets five choices with the first choice worth 5 points, second 4 points etc.

Maybe Nathan could have the result as a footnote in his article.

“Maybe Nathan could have the result as a footnote in his article.”

With all these off topic replies I really won’t have the material I need for that article.

Without an answer to this question, I really doubt that you’re going to get much of a response from folks on this board.

This is a very small industry and most are NOT going to post personal details as it could very easily provide enough information to have their IRL identity revealed. So your two posts above are a bit at odds with each other; that is, folks who are going to be willing to respond are going to do so through the email.

But, your profile is at odds with the above knowledge, which most who have spent at least 10 years in the profession will have a very solid grasp on just how small this industry is.

Just to add my own $0.02, @Nathan_Block are you looking for spouses of actuaries taking exams or people who are past that stage. Those are 2 different experiences with the former having a lot of self-sacrifice to run their home each exam season while the latter just has to deal with a spouse who is over-analytical of things.
Depending on the flavour and publication of your article, you should identify whom you are seeking.

On the other hand, you will have some great material for a different article!

“The actuaries then debated and eventually voted on a name for a group of actuaries…”

Yeah, that’s about par for the course lol. Sorry Nathan.

I choose to believe that this will not be published anywhere. Nathan just wants this article for himself.

try the actuary subreddit, reddit has a much better reputation for staying on topic

Masturbation material??

Asking for a friend.

Surely that’s why we’re all here? …/s

I agree with this. There’s a reason why my wife got a custom-made “Fuck the CAS” keychain.

There was an AO thread on the collective noun for actuaries, but I don’t remember what the consensus was. I want to say “a complement of actuaries”, but that may have just been my vote. (And perhaps the collective noun needs to be different by practice area – a complement of casualty actuaries; a cohort of life actuaries…)

A couple of collections of collective nouns online indicate it’s a “risk of actuaries”.

How many of us are “out” here?

Maybe more than the AO, but still not many.

Anyway, my husband Stu would probably not be interested in talking with you anyway. He’s not big on talking to strangers online. Though he does ask me if I told the actuaries certain things. I used to tell him about AO/actuarial org drama.

I would think it’s still very few, unless names like Big Black Ben is somebody’s real name. @Ted_Hoffman is definitely real though. Just don’t ask him to answer any surveys before his morning rituals.
