2026 FIFA World Cup Discussion

only hosting 13 games is the likely culprit. too much fixed cost/requirements, not enough guest revenue to make it up

Pretty much all related to the absurd FIFA pricing and the US trying to extract money for breathing at this point.

None of it is condusive to a good fan atmosphere as it leaves a bad taste. Puts people off.

Heck, Qatar probably had a better one at this point.

Well, we’ll still be serving beer.

Should have made those FIFA deposits non-refundable.
So, when will the prices drop? Cuz “dynamic pricing”?

Pressure on other cities to do this? Our mayor faces re-election this fall…..

The $50 seats are the cheapest available for fans to purchase through the primary ticket market at the World Cup. Buyers will also receive free round-trip bus travel to attend.

THIS is the real bargain!
But, only 1000 tickets strewn over seven matches. I guess that is a couple buses full.

Also, VERY SOCIALIST!! EEEEEEEVILLLLLLL!!!

This is in keeping with the “fleece ‘em all” spirit of Fifa and its commercial partners and may explain why, in a time when soccer has never been bigger here, so many American fans do not appear especially excited about the forthcoming attraction.

On the contrary, I am stoked to watch them on TV at any of my four TVs in my house.
(Five, if we include the one not plugged in. Hmm, might have to add that to the one outside, watch two at once…)

Holy cow. You have five TVs! We only have one. We’re so poor. :frowning:

I don’t think we need this many. We watch one 95% of the time. They’re pretty cheap, though. Nothing over $1000 (or $10,000).

You probably don’t want to see my office at home. I have…what…seven displays going, including one which is a ridiculous ultra-ultra wide curved beast.

Admittedly, none of them are, strictly speaking, TVs…but we don’t do broadcast/cable TV anymore. We replaced our old living room TV with a very nice LCD monitor a few years ago…

That’s like having a sports bar in your house. Hey, you can charge people to drink and watch sports.

I do wonder how FIFA’s rules differ from the Olympics…

Canada is taking a different approach to folks arriving from these countries, at least for now.

Might belong in Political, but:

Bring plenty of water, Iran!
Problem with this is going through customs six times, even on a charter.
And, might be easier to defect in MEX.

Interesting. It’s not from lack of Spanish based players. I count 17 from Spanish teams, 7 from English and 1 each from French and German.
