Before fighting over a foul ball I urge everyone who can afford to pay for a ticket to check this link:
Had a ball hit me in the hands… I caught it. No kids around, so I kept it for my kids. They didn’t really care, but it was a sick catch off a ricochet so I’m proud
Brought tears to my eyes.
me too, when the ball hit me
I think I’ve posted this before but that’s me getting hit with the Sean Murphy home run. i gave it to the lady next to me who is a family friend who got us the suite tickets. oddly enough she was an A’s season ticket holder so there were at least a few of them around.
I thought it was pretty universal for baseball fans to boo the opposing team pitcher whenever he threw over to first base? But I am an ignorant Canadian.
Toronto has had professional baseball teams since the 1800s so it is hardly a new sport in Canada. Not like hockey in Florida so I bristled at the Baltimore announcer’s hockey reference. Maybe he is the one who is not so knowledgeable? Of course, if I was a Baltimore Orioles fan I would be frustrated this year as well.
It seems to me that a while back, fans would only boo if they thought the pitcher was just wasting time - generally starting on the 3rd consecutive throw to first without a pitch. Or maybe the 4th cumulative for the batter. Or when it was clear the runner had no intention of running (Ed Farmer used to say that it wasn’t uncommon for a pitcher to throw to first when he just didn’t like what the catcher was calling - so the throw to first would have nothing to do with the runner at all)
Maybe he was wondering how much smarter they were than the Baltimore fans.
Trey Yesavage pitched his first major league game tonight.
He started in Low-A this year.
Then went to High-A
Then Double-A
Then Triple-A
Then MLB.
Anyone else know of any other players playing in five levels of pro baseball in one season?
He struck out 9 in five innings in his debut tonight and gave up one run.
I had to look up the rules. Since he came up after 9/1, he is ineligible for post-season play. That would have been even cooler.
There is an exception that might let him into post-season play; he must replace someone who was on the roster before 9/1 who is injured. The approval of an application to the Commissioner is necessary for this.
Would be cool if he got to pitch in the WS!
First round yes, WS no

It is always nice to see Mom and Dad get excited by their son’s debut
Yankees are going to have to play better in the playoffs than they did in regular season. A Jays-Yankees ALCS is quite possible.
There are plenty of ways to get him on the playoff roster, usually replacing any player on the 60 day IL.
Arguably the best pitcher of an era, has 222 wins (ok, maybe Verlander) but still..
I would put Kershaw #1 of the era. But there are strong cases that can be made for either Verlander, Kershaw or Sherzer.
If you bring in playoffs is where Kershaw tends to get dinged
Regular season
Kershaw 222-96 2.54 ERA, 2,844 IP, 154 ERA+, 77.7 WAR
Velander 265-157 3.32 ERA, 3,557 IP, 128 ERA+, 82.6 WAR
Scherzer 221-115, 3.19 ERA, 2,957 IP, 132 ERA+, 75.6 WAR
Post season
Kershaw 13-13 4.49 ERA, 194 IP
Velander 16-8 3.58 ERA, 226 IP
Scherzer 12-8 3.78 ERA, 143 IP
I don’t usually put too much on post season, unless it is spectacular.
Kershaw w/l % and era are all time elite - incredibly close to Pedro
