2024 Tour de France

he won a stage but he still needs to get revenge on that cork

Have there been non-African blacks who won a stage?

Or white Africans?

Chris Froome was born in Kenya.

Ah.

Darryl Impey is a white South African. I think he’s a stage winner. And Froome (white) has won everything there is to win just about (maybe not points classification) and was indeed born in Kenya, but he does not compete for Kenya. Impey represented South Africa in international competitions whereas Froome represented the UK.

Daniel Teklehaimanot is a (black) Eritrean rider who wore the King of the Mountains jersey for maybe 4 days or so around 2015 or 2016… they made such a big deal about that I’m gonna say he was the first black rider (certainly the first Eritrean) to wear a leader’s jersey.

And Girmay was also the first Eritrean / first black African to win a grand tour stage when he won a stage at the Giro a few years back, so it’s not a huge surprise that he is now the first black African to win a Tour stage. Now he needs a Vuelta win for the trifecta.

Tadej did the Tadej thing

If ayuso and almeida weren’t so selfish they would have dropped rog

Wow, didn’t think it would happen.

Just watched the replay. No teammates in the last km for a lead out, meh, no problemo.

Yeah nice move at the end. Classic finish.

That gravel stage was crazy, I’m glad the 2 Movistar guys didn’t win because their tactics were bad and they should feel bad.

Nothing happened today

… and no soccer/football either!

The green jersey gets a bit more interesting.

I finally got to this today (as always, I am behind).

WOW!!! Much like Tejay Van Garderan, while I wanted him to win I did not think he had it in him. Happy to be wrong though!

:notworthy:

Are we talking years or days because there has been a development in Tejay’s career

Days… I mean… he’s a commentator for the Tour and was saying he really really really wanted him to, but he didn’t think Cav could do it. Which was my thinking too.

But if something has happened since Stage 5 then I missed it.

I remember him racing, certainly… didn’t he like always crash out on stage 9? I haven’t followed his career super closely, but as the best American rider with GC aspirations I would of course cheer for him.
